When Man Kissed God

The Purpose of Pain

By Apostle Felix

25  And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son’s venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he ate; and he brought him wine, and he drank.

26  And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now and kiss me, my son.

27  And he came near and kissed him, and he smelled the smell of his clothing and blessed him and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed.

28  Therefore let God give thee of the dew of heaven and of the fatness of the earth and plenty of wheat and new wine.

29  Let the peoples serve thee and nations bow down to thee; be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee; cursed be every one that curses thee, and blessed be he that blesses thee.

Genesis 27: 25 – 29

This is a short piece of a sermon a preached on Apostle/Dr. H.B. Goroh’s seventy’s birthday. God bless his life and ministry. I would like to share this thoughts with yiu and I hope they will be a blessing to you. It was a word the Holy Spirit laid on my heart to share on that special day of apostle’s birthday. it was such a privilege to have shared these thoughts on that high profile platform. Thank you, apostle/Dr. Goroh. Its indeed an honor to identify ourselves as your children in faith.

When Man Kissed Man

Esau, Jacob’s brother forfeited his birthright because of food. He despised it. The birthright gave access to the blessing of the father. The blessing gravitates where the birthright is valued. Esau valued the temporal than the eternal. He rejected the promised seed for a plate of soup.

34  Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.

Genesis 25: 34

Esau represents man in Adam, who forfeited his place in God for the perishable. He forsook the imperishable for the perishable. While Jacob, represents man in Christ, who have accepted Christ despite the shortcomings. When the day came for Isaac to bless his son, Esau, he called for him and sent him to bring game meat before he could bless him. The son had to kill an animal before the blessing could be released. Blood had to be shed for the blessing to be invoked. So, therefore, Esau was sent out to go and kill an animal.

While Esau had gone hunting game in the bush, Jacob went in his place and collected the blessing. Isaac, who could not see due to old age, asked Jacob to come close and kiss him because he wanted to be sure it was Esau. But Jacob had a brilliant advisor, his mother, who had advised him to put on his brother’s clothes and put goat’s hair around his arms and neck. This was because Esau was hairy and Isaac would have identified Jacob by the smooth of his skin and the smell. But the mother advised Jacob to put on Esau’s clothes and put on goat’s hair on his arms and around his neck.

The kiss was for identification. Not Jacob identifying his father, but his father identifying him. Of course, the smell was not Jacob’s, it was Esau’s smell. This was a son kissing his father for the blessing. Isaac was blind, so he solely relied on his senses to feel and smell. Jacob was asked to approach his father and kiss him because his father became suspicion. The voice was of Jacob but the smell and body was Esau. The mother had clothed Jacob in Esau’s attire for Jacob to rightfully receive the blessing he did not deserve to receive.

When Man Kissed God.

44  And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.

45  And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.

46  And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

Mark 14: 44 – 46

Though it was a kiss of betrayal, it was also a kiss of identification. Jesus was not blind, but it was Judas who was blind. Jesus knew who Judas was. Judas was a broken man, who had identified himself with his troubled past. He kissed Jesus for identification. He Jesus caught Judas’ smell of a brokenness, rejection, disappointments, condemnation, all human pains and curses.

47  And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.

48  But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

Luke 22: 47, 48

When Judas drew near, Jesus caught the smell of Adam, and He identified Himself as the last Adam. When Jacob kissed his father, Isaac, he received the Abrahamic blessing, but when Jesus was kissed by Judas, He received the condemnation, the curse and death. So that, you and me can receive justification, the blessing and life. When we come to Him and kiss Him, He does not catch the smell of Adam, but the smell of His own Son, Jesus Christ.
