Vision Through God’s Eyes

Vision Through God’s Eyes

By Apostle Felix

18  When there is no clear prophetic vision, people quickly wander astray. But when you follow the revelation of the word, heaven’s bliss fills your soul.

Proverbs 29: 18

So many books have been written about vision based on Proverbs chapter twenty nine verse eighteen. Every christian book on leadership has a vision chapter, addressing the aspects of vision and how to actualize it. The concepts are powerful and very helpful, but using Proverbs chapter twenty nine verse eighteen may be a wrong scripture to use. The problem there is an issue of interpretation, which is termed as eisegesis. Eisegesis is importing one’s subjective interpretations into scripture. It is the opposite of exegesis. Exegesis is a critical interpretation of scripture to mean today what  the scripture originally meant to the writer and the original audience. The problem with Bible interpretation is the language barrier, culture and lack of understanding of dispensations.

The term “vision” in Proverbs chapter twenty nine verse eighteen is a translation of a Hebrew word hazon. This noun is used thirty five times in the Old Testament. It is related to a verb hazah, which means to “receive by revelation.” The latter rendering of the verb is used of a prophet having a “vision,” hazon.”

1  The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

Isaiah 1: 1

In order to understand how the term was used, we need to understand the content of the message that was received. The content was usually meant to bring the nation of Israel back to God and also prophesied the coming of the Messiah. Samuel writes about the time when the word of the Lord was rare because vision was uncommon. There was nobody positioned to receive the revelation of God, hence rarity of God’s word. God used to communicate to His people in visions, meaning He gave them a message concerning the Christ.

19  (19-20) You spoke to your prophets in visions, saying, “I have found a mighty hero for my people.

20 I have chosen David as my loving servant and exalted him. I have anointed him as king with the oil of my holiness.

Psalm 89: 19, 20

The word translated “perish” is derived from a verb para, which generally means to “let go” or “let loose.” The word portrays the children of Israel’s behavior when they made a golden calf and engaged themselves in orgies. The Israelites’ behavior was without restraint. They had no moral boundaries. Their moral restraint were let loose. They lost self control. Their lose of self control was due to lack of the message of God.

18 When there is no special revelation, people cast off moral restraints; however, when people obey God’s word, they are blessed:

Proverbs 29: 18 ESV

The vision or revelation in Proverbs twenty nine verse eighteen talks about the message of God. The prophets of old received the message about the coming Christ. Now, that He came, died and rose from the dead, our message is Christ crucified and Him glorified. The risen Savior. Every vision you have should filter through this revelation, the revelation of Christ. Every vision should be christocentric. The blessedness of any person depends on their right standing with God in Christ. The message is loud and clear that Christ is our revelation, and upon receiving Him, we receive life and the blessing of God.
