True Disciples
By Apostle Felix
35 For when you demonstrate the same love I have for you by loving one another, everyone will know that you’re my true followers.”
John 13: 25
The Greek word for disciple is mathetes, which means a learner. Jesus called the twelve known men as disciples for the purpose of learning. A disciple is a follower. Disciples follow a messenger because of the message he/she carries. It is the content of the message that makes disciples to be like the person they are following. The message is critical to disciple making. Jesus said to go and teach the nations to faithfully follow all the words of Jesus. Discipleship is content based. And it is biased to the content one wants to see reproduced in his students. A mixture of content may affect the results one wants to see in his disciples. Teach them to faithfully follow the content of the message.
1 Timothy, my dear son, live your life empowered by God’s free-flowing grace, which is your true strength, found in the anointing of Jesus and your union with him!
2 And all that you’ve learned from me, confirmed by the integrity of my life, pass on to faithful leaders who are competent to teach the congregations the same revelation.2 Timothy 2: 1, 2
Discipleship is all about passing on the content of the message to others. This is the reason why serious attention should be given to the content used for discipleship. One cannot afford to be careless with the content and destroy multiple generations in the process. Christianity has been preserved through discipleship. The first batch of disciples were committed to disciple making, hence the establishment of the church. Jesus was focused on teaching the word, though He raised the dead and healed the sick. But His main occupation was teaching. By the way, He taught the word of God to His disciples and did miracles among the masses. It is very sad to see believers gathering in auditoriums to go to witness miracles. Miracles can happen among the believers but it should not be the reason of gathering. The believers’ gathering is for the purpose learning.
15 Always be eager to present yourself before God as a perfect and mature minister, without shame, as one who correctly explains the Word of Truth.
2 Timothy 2: 15
A mature minister is not curved out of miracles but learning. Jesus spent time with His disciples teaching the kingdom of God. The apostle Paul, the one who wrote a third of the New Testament was a very studious man of the word of God. A follower of Christ. One who had dedicated his life to learning Christ. A man whom God used to reveal the gospel of Christ to the body of Christ.
1 Beloved friends, because of my love for Jesus Christ, I am now his prisoner for the sake of all of you who are not Jews,
2 so that you will hear the gospel that God has entrusted to me to share with you.
3 For this wonderful mystery, which I briefly described, was given to me by divine revelation,
4 so that whenever you read it you will be able to understand my revelation and insight into the secret mystery of the Messiah.
5 There has never been a generation that has been given the detailed understanding of this glorious and divine mystery until now. He kept it a secret until this generation. God is revealing it only now to his sacred apostles and prophets by the Holy Spirit.Ephesians 3: 1 – 5
