True Disciples 2
By Apostle Felix
18 And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?
19 They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.
20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.Luke 9: 18 – 20
A disciple is one who knows his master. Jesus had called men to follow Him as disciples, but these men though they were with Him, did not really know Him. Proximity to someone does not knowing the person. Judas the Iscariot was very close to Jesus but yet ended up betraying Him. The disciples saw Jesus as a political liberator, and not as one, who had to die for the sins for the world. This is the reason why Peter rebuked Jesus when He talked about His death. The idea they had of the Messiah was one to liberate them from the Roman colonial rule.
18 I give you the name Peter, a stone. And this truth of who I am will be the bedrock foundation on which I will build my church—my legislative assembly, and the power of death will not be able to overpower it!
Matthew 16: 18
A disciple is one whose life is founded on the revelation of Jesus. When Peter received the revelation of who the Christ was, then He began to talk about His death. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the summation of the reason why He came to earth. He came to die and resurrect for the salvation of mankind.
Mat 16:21 From then on Jesus began to clearly reveal to his disciples that he was destined to go to Jerusalem and suffer injustice from the elders, leading priests, and religious scholars. He also explained that he would be killed and three days later be raised to life again.
Matthew 16: 21
Discipleship is building people’s lives only one foundation, which is Christ. Jesus was very aware of the disciples’ views of Him. And He wanted to shift them from their personal and public views of Christ. If He had to let them ran with the same views they had of Christ, then they were going to present another Jesus to the people. It is sad to say that we have different views of Christ even today and we are producing believers who blown by every wind of doctrine.
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:Ephesians 4: 14, 15
True disciples of Christ live by the words of Christ. These are men and women whose lives are patterned after Christ. They do what they have heard from the mouth of Christ. If Christ healed the ear of one of the soldiers who had to arrest Him, then the disciples of Christ are not there to kill witches and those that hate them. No true disciple of Christ will rejoice in the death of a witch because God, the Father does not rejoice in the death of the wicked. True disciples do not keep a record of wrongs because Jesus does not do so. He forgives and forgets. True disciples of Christ hear the voice of the Son of God rather than Moses’ voice of shadows and types. Jesus said, ‘My sheep hears My voice.’ True disciples are able to recognize the voice of the shepherd and follow. The reason why christians are following any voice today is because they do not know how the voice of Christ sounds like. They do not know the content of His voice. It is not just about the ability to hear but the ability to distinguish the voice of Christ from all other voices. So many are following strange voices in the name of prophets and apostles. Know the content of the voice of Christ.
4 And when he has brought out all his sheep, he walks ahead of them and they will follow him, for they are familiar with his voice.
5 But they will run away from strangers and never follow them because they know it’s the voice of a stranger.”
6 Jesus told the Pharisees this parable even though they didn’t understand a word of what he meant.John 10: 4 – 6
