Time

Time

By Apostle Felix

15  See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16  Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Ephesians 5: 15, 16

Time is a measurable period during which an action, process, or conditions exists or continues. Time is also regarded as an ability to measure our moments, guide our actions, and remind us of life’s impermanence. The ancient Greeks had two different words for the concept of time “chronos” and “kairos”. The word “chronos” from which English words “chronological” and “chronicle” comes, refers to measured, ticking, quantitative time. Kairos is qualitative, representing the opportune, critical, or “right” moment to act, a fleeting, meaningful instant beyond mere measurement, often linked to divine timing or significant life events.

The word used for time in Ephesians 4: 16 is kairos. It is referring to qualitative as opposed to quantitative. The concept of time can be complex in the sense that the same quantity of time given to every individual can be produce different quality of life. Every human being on earth has twenty four hours per day, but what one does with the time allotted determines  the quality of results. To most people of African descent, time is just kronos (quantity), while to some such as people of European and Asian descent, time is both Kronos and kairos. The disregard of kairos has resulted into disrespecting the importance of time by most Africans. Time is for productivity. Unfortunately, time is regarded as a commodity for spending. That attitude has turned time into a liability. Time is an asset in the real sense.

The passion translation Bible says, in Ephesians 5:-16 So be very careful how you live, not being like those with no understanding, but live honorably with true wisdom, for we are living in evil times. Take full advantage of every day as you spend your life for his purposes. Paul was addressing the importance of approaching time as an asset, something that one should take seriously to invest in productively. It is that time of the year again when the systems slow down to break a bit from productivity. This is holiday season. The only person that qualifies to break a bit from productivity is one that had productive since the year began. The purpose of holiday is to rejuvenate and refresh for the purpose of becoming more productive. In fact productive people withdraw to re-strategize and reorganize for the next year. Time wasters, bury themselves into parties and stumble into the new year without any plan for the time given.

Instead of just thinking of what you should eat and drink over Christmas and new year, think of how you are going to invest into the 365 days awaiting in 2026.Do not watch time pass by again in 2026. Maximize it. Paul said be very careful how you live, not being like those without understanding, but live honourably with true wisdom. Do not be a time waster. Redeem the time!
