Theology of the Resurrection

Theology of the Resurrection

By Apostle Felix

For you will not abandon me to the realm of death, nor will you allow your Holy One to experience corruption. For you bring me a continual revelation of resurrection life, the path to the bliss that brings me face-to-face with you. Pslam 16: 10, 11

Theology is the systematic study of the nature of God. It brings order and clarity to the manner Bible study is done. It discourages haphazard approach to the study of the word of God. It also encourages attentiveness to dividing the word of truth with precision. One verse from the Bible cannot be adequate enough to give a revelation of who God is. Abuse of scripture starts with isolating verses from its context and dispensation.

The theology of the resurrection has got to do with an effort made to study the acts of God in the Old Testament that overshadows the life and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Christ is not explicitly explained in the Old Testament but is hidden in the acts of God and the Jewish rituals of worship. Christ is called a mystery in the Old Testament. His death, burial and resurrection is a mystery in the Old Covenant.

The disciples didn’t have a clue what he was saying, for his words were a mystery that was hidden from them.

Luke 18: 34

I give all my praises and glory to the one who has more than enough power to make you strong and keep you steadfast through the promises found in the wonderful news that I preach; that is, the proclamation of Jesus, the Anointed One. This wonderful news includes the unveiling of the mystery kept secret from the dawn of creation until now. This mystery is understood through the prophecies of the Scripture and by the decree of the eternal God. And it is now heard openly by all the nations, igniting within them a deep commitment of faith.

Romans 16: 25, 26

The secret has been hidden from the people for ages until Christ was revealed. Before His death and resurrection, the secret was still hidden from the people. But upon His resurrection, the secret has been made known to all that receive Him as Lord and Saviour.

The theology of the Bible is Christology. Christology is the theology that relates to the Person, nature and the work of Christ. The Bible is a document that progressively unfolds the will of God regarding man’s redemption through the sacrificial death of Christ. From Genesis to Revelation, Christ is the dominate figure. He fills the pages of the Bible and the Bible is Christ-centred. It is not a book to offer the names of demons. No! It’s not about demonoloy, but about Christology. Remember, the theology of the Bible is Christology. If you read the Bible and you end with Moses, then you have read it wrongly. That’s why we are not in the days of Elijah but in the days of Jesus. Moses and Elijah were declared redundant when God said, ‘This is My Son, in whom I am well please. Hear Him.’

Just then, a radiant cloud began to spread over them, enveloping them all. And God’s voice suddenly spoke from the cloud, saying, “This is my most dearly loved Son—always listen to him!” Suddenly, when they looked around, the disciples saw only Jesus, for Moses and Elijah had faded away.
