The Redeemed
By Apostle Felix
21 And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?
1 Chronicles 17: 21
The word ‘redeem‘ comes from the Hebrew, ‘Padah‘ which means ‘to sever, to rescue, to ransom, to deliver, to release, to preserve.’ God has redeemed His people so they can belong to Him. Redemption is severing a people from an oppressive and tyrannical rule and bring them into the family or kingdom of the redeemer. Redemption is incomplete when the redeemed are not settled into the family of the redeemer. Israel was severed from Egypt to be delivered into the promised land. The redemption was incomplete as long as Israel remained in the wilderness. The wilderness was not God’s idea for Israel. Israel spent forty years in the wilderness because of their unbelief. An eleven day journey turned into forty years because of unbelief.
6 For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
Joshua 5: 6
2 There are eleven days’ journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadeshbarnea.
Deuteronomy 1: 2
Israel was severed from the Egyptian kingdom but the condition of their minds stopped them from enjoying the full benefits of redemption. They wandered in the wilderness not because God was punishing them. It was not the inhabitants of the land that had hindered them from entering the promised land. The slave mentality they had walked out of Egypt with, stopped them from entering the promised land. It was not the devil, demons or generational curses. These were idolaters but yet God was willing to deliver them into the promised land if it had not been for their slave mentality.
33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
Numbers 13: 33
Twelve spies were sent into the promised land to go and spy out the land. None of the inhabitants of the land recognized them as spies but the self defeating view of themselves, made them to conclude that the enemy was more power than them. This is a picture of believers who exaggerate the enemies’ dominance in believers’ lives. Though we are in the world, the god of this world has no power over the redeemed of the Lord. We have been severed from the world, and our roots are now in Christ.
18 For you know that your lives were ransomed once and for all from the empty and futile way of life handed down from generation to generation. It was not a ransom payment of silver and gold, which eventually perishes,
19 but the precious blood of Christ—who like a spotless, unblemished lamb was sacrificed for us.1 Peter 1: 18, 19
You have been redeemed (severed) once and for all from the empty and futile way of life handed down by your fore fathers from generation to generation. Your redemption came on Christ’s expense of shedding His blood. You have been redeemed by the incorruptible seed, which is the word of God. Israel was redeemed by means of shedding animal blood, during the Passover. But you and me have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
12 And he has entered once and forever into the Holiest Sanctuary of All, not with the blood of animal sacrifices, but the sacred blood of his own sacrifice. And he alone has made our salvation secure forever!
