The Law of Faith
By Apostle Felix
27 Where, then, is there room for boasting? Do our works bring God’s acceptance? Not at all! It was not our works of keeping the law but our faith in his finished work that makes us right with God.
28 So our conclusion is this: God’s wonderful declaration that we are righteous in his eyes can only come when we put our faith in Christ, and not in keeping the law.Romans 3: 27, 28
Faith is the currency of the kingdom of God. God is Spirit and can only be related to by faith. He cannot be contacted by sensual means. Faith is the language God understands. In today’s devotional, we are going to look at what constitutes the faith of the New Covenant.
The Old Testament faith was the faith that was looking forward to the coming of the Messiah. The Old Testament faith was meant to bring the hopes to a reality. The saints of old had the promises that the Messiah shall be born some day. The prophets prophesied concerning the coming of the Messiah.
10 This salvation was the focus of the prophets who prophesied of this outpouring of grace that was destined for you. They made a careful search and investigation of the meaning of their God-given prophecies
11 as they probed into the mysteries of who would fulfill them and the time period when it would all take place. The Spirit of the Anointed One was in them and was pointing prophetically to the sufferings that Christ was destined to suffer and the glories that would be released afterward.1 Peter 1: 10, 11
The prophets foretold the coming of the Messiah but had no opportunity to witness of His coming. They had the promises, but not the reality. You and I have the reality of the promise of the Seed , which is Christ. Our faith, therefore, is not in the coming Seed but in the glorified Son. Our faith is in the finished work of Christ. Jesus has done it all and its up to you and me to simply receive what the Lord has already provided. Is it healing? Jesus has already provided. Is it salvation? Jesus has already provided. Is it freedom? Jesus has already provided. Is it the blessing? Jesus has already provided. Is it favor? Jesus has already provided. He has provided all and we receive all by faith. Our faith is in what the Lord has already done.
1 Now faith brings our hopes into reality and becomes the foundation needed to acquire the things we long for. It is all the evidence required to prove what is still unseen.
Hebrews 11: 1
Hebrews chapter eleven is not the definition of faith, but a description of faith of the Old Testament saints. It describes how the people before Christ was born expressed their faith in God. They offered animal sacrifices like Abel who offered a better sacrifice than Cain. His sacrifice was a type and shadow of the coming Messiah. So, it was regarded better than Cain’s. However, our faith in God is described as follows:
1. Jesus is the substance and our faith. We are no longer living in the shadow of the Almighty but we now live in Him. Our faith is in Jesus, who died, and rose from the dead.
2. Our salvation is no longer a promise. Christ the promised Seed, manifested in the flesh. We are no longer looking forward to the coming of the Seed.
3. Our faith is in the finished work. Jesus settled it completely. There is nothing missing, and nothing broken. It is a perfect work, and whosoever receives is made righteous and holy.
4. Our faith is not work based, but ‘believe in Christ’ based.
