The Glory Behind the Veil
By Apostle Felix
13 We are not like Moses, who used a veil to hide the glory to keep the Israelites from staring at him as it faded away.
14 Their minds were closed and hardened, for even to this day that same veil comes over their minds when they hear the words of the former covenant. The veil has not yet been lifted from them, for it is only eliminated when one is joined to the Messiah.
15 So until now, whenever the Old Testament is being read, the same blinding comes over their hearts.
16 But the moment one turns to the Lord with an open heart, the veil is lifted and they see.
17 Now, the “Lord” I’m referring to is the Holy Spirit, and wherever he is Lord, there is freedom.
2 Corinthians 3: 14 – 17
The subject of unveiling the Christ is to be taken serious because the manifestation of the glory of God in people’s lives depend on it. The glory is not some imaginary cloud or smoke, but is the very character of God. Moses requested for the glory to be shown to him by God. God’s response to Moses was the manifesting of His characteristics. Glory is oftentimes referred to as honour and dignity. In the bible, Kabod is a Hebrew word translated glory. Kabod means, weight or splendor. Moses had asked God to show him God’s glory. It was just after Israel had sinned against God by worshiping a golden calf, Israel had made. Moses, in his anger had even broken the tablets where the law had been engraved. It was a sad moment for Moses and the community of Israel. Moses was at the verge of keeping up leadership and so he really needed assurance from the Lord.
18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.
19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
Exodus 33: 18, 19
The Lord manifested His glory before Moses by proclaiming His name as the merciful, gracious, and long-suffering God. With that encounter, Moses’ face was glowing with glory so much that the people requested him to cover his face with a veil.
29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.
33 And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face.
Exodus 34: 29, 33
The glory of the law was veiled the moment Moses veiled his face to hide his glowing face from the people. The veiling of Moses’ face was symbolic of the Christ veiled, who was a mystery hidden from the people in types and shadows. The law itself was a letter that could not give life but it was given for the purpose of pointing people to the Christ who was yet to come. It was not the glory, but a tutor and governor, guiding the people to Christ. The law and it’s religious rituals were not meant to save but to prove to man about the necessity of the Messiah for the salvation of mn. The law had no power to give man access into the glory of God. It had no capacity to do that. All the law could do was to veil the glory from man. Every time when the law of Moses is disseminated, the veil is cast upon the people and prevents them from seeing the glory of Christ. It is the gospel of Christ that takes away the veil. When people hear the gospel of Christ, the veil falls off from their faces and are able to see the glory. This is the reason why it is dangerous to continue practicing the types and shadows under the dispensation of grace. Such tendencies make the people to remain perpetually in bondage. Freedom is the product of the gospel of Christ. The Holy Spirit has been sent to come and reveal the glory of Christ that liberates lives through the gospel.
1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.
3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:
4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
