Jesus and His Resurrection

Jesus and His Resurrection

By Apostle Felix

Philosophers of the teachings of Epicurus, and others called Stoics, debated with Paul. When they heard him speak about Jesus and his resurrection, they said, “What strange ideas is this babbler trying to present?” Others said, “He’s peddling some kind of foreign religion.” Acts 17: 18

What defines the gospel is Jesus and His death and resurrection. The gospel can be defined as the good news. A promotion at one’s workplace can be regarded as good news. But such good news is not long lived. It has an expiry date. A promotion may even come with it’s own challenges, especially if the workplace is hostile. A promotion may come with some incentives and benefits but may lack the power to sustain the individual in that position.

One getting married may be regarded as good news. But marriage itself does not give power to the couple to stay in marriage. Before Christ, people had moments of good news, but was often short lived. Man could not find satisfaction in earthly possessions and all the accolades prior to the resurrection of Christ.

The resurrection is the good news. It’s the gospel. If Jesus did not resurrect from the dead, there was never going to be the gospel. Every gospel that is empty of the resurrection is no gospel at all. Motivation speech should not be mistaken for the gospel. It is simply a positive speech but lacks the power to save anybody from emptiness and meaningless of life.

A motivation speech can help a drunkard to quit drinking alcohol but will not have the power to deliver the person from sin. Motivation speech can help someone to have good esteem of oneself but may not have the power to set one free from condemnation. Only the resurrection of Jesus Christ has the power to deliver from sin and free one from condemnation.

So now the case is closed. There remains no accusing voice of condemnation against those who are joined in life-union with Jesus, the Anointed One. For the “law” of the Spirit of life flowing through the anointing of Jesus has liberated us from the “law” of sin and death. For God achieved what the law was unable to accomplish, because the law was limited by the weakness of human nature. Yet God sent us his Son in human form to identify with human weakness. Clothed with humanity, God’s Son gave his body to be the sin-offering so that God could once and for all condemn the guilt and power of sin. Romans 8: 1 – 3
