Immanuel

Immanuel

By Apostle Felix

14  Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Isaiah 7: 14

23  Listen! A virgin will be pregnant, she will give birth to a Son, and he will be known as “Immanuel,” which means in Hebrew, “God became one of us.”

Matthew 1: 23

The birth of Christ is very significant to defining our identity. His birth was a defining moment in the history of mankind. God decided to become one of us. That was significant. The God that created the seen and the unseen, the Almighty God was born one day in human flesh. God, the sustainer of all creation was born to live among His own creation. The entire creation was in utter awe to see the God of all creation in human body. The only being that could not recognize God, who became one of us is man.

11  He came to the very people he created—to those who should have recognized him, but they did not receive him.

John 1: 11

It is very unfortunate that His birth has been trivialized and celebrated in the manner that dishonours His name. We are talking about God becoming flesh. The God, who lives in the unapproachable light decided to come in human flesh and be approachable. It was impossible for God to interact with a fallen man in His glorified state as God.

16  He alone is the immortal God, living in the unapproachable light of divine glory! No one has ever seen his fullness, nor can they, for all the glory and endless authority of the universe belongs to him, forever and ever. Amen!

1 Timothy 6: 16

God had to find a body to occupy so that He could identity with man and be able to die for him. It was just impossible for God to come as God and die for man. God cannot be killed or rather die. He is immortal. Therefore, the eternal God lowered Himself to become one of us by occupying a body, which was prepared for Him.

5  So when Jesus the Messiah came into the world he said, “Since your ultimate desire was not another animal sacrifice, you have clothed me with a body that I might offer myself instead!

Hebrews 10: 5

The occupation of the body by God is what the Bible calls ‘The Son of God.’ When God incarnated (God taking on a bodily form), He became the Son of God. So then, the Son of God is the coming together of divinity and humanity, which is Immanuel.

14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

John 1: 14

This same Jesus that was became one of us, who died and rose from the dead, now lives in us by His Spirit. By virtue of His Person in us, we qualify to be called sons of God. The divine One now lives in us, the mortal men. We have been given the power to be called sons of God.

12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

John 1: 12

You are not just a mere man, who can be trampled on by the devils at will. No, you are a son of God of the Most High God, and you have become one of God’s children. He became one of us, so that we can become one of His children. Celebrate His birth with this in mind that I have become one of His because He became one of us – Immanuel.
