The Prophetic Ministry
By Apostle Felix
Throughout our history God has spoken to our ancestors by his prophets in many different ways. The revelation he gave them was only a fragment at a time, building one truth upon another. But to us living in these last days, God now speaks to us openly in the language of a Son, the appointed Heir of everything, for through him God created the panorama of all things and all time. Hebrews 1: 1, 2
Who is a Prophet?
The prophetic ministry has been abused due to theological disorder in the church. Apostle Paul addressed the abuse of spiritual gifts in the Corinthian church. He did not only rebuke them but he also taught them how spiritual gifts should be used in the manner to benefit the body of Christ. It is critical to understand who the prophet is, both in the Old and New Testaments respectively, in order to stay afloat deception. A prophet is one who embodies the revelation of Christ. Abraham was called a prophet because he embodied the revelation of Christ. He pioneered the lineage of Christ, and so is called the father of faith.
Abraham, our father of faith, led the way as our pioneering example. He believed God and the substance of his faith released God’s righteousness to him. So those who are the true children of Abraham will have the same faith as their father! God’s plan all along was to bring this message of salvation to the nations through the revelation of faith. Long ago God prophesied over Abraham, as the Holy Scriptures say: “Through your example of faith all the nations will be blessed!” And so the blessing of Abraham’s faith is now our blessing too! Galatians 3: 6 – 9
This great prophet of God, Abraham is worth studying . His life and how God dealt with him is something we have to examine closely. His prophetic life lacked, ‘Thus says the Lord.’ Yet he is called a prophet. His prophetic ministry laid a foundation for the present day church. Abraham is our father of faith and our example of the life of faith. Abraham’s faith was to believe the message of God and embodied it. He believed God and he was declared the righteousness of God. This is good news! The gospel was first preached to prophet Abraham and was expected to be an envoy of good news, dispensing the the fragrance of Christ.
For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Romans 4: 3
Abraham and his wife, Sara waited for a child for 25 years. The promise came to Abraham and Sara when they were 75 and 65 years respectively. The wait was long, and made the couple to try to help God and produced Ishmael. The child, Ishmael was a product of the flesh, when man decided to change God’s script. The script was that a child shall come from Abraham through Sara in their old age. God was looking at Abraham as a prophet and a pioneer of the family of grace through faith. Hagar was a young woman, whose body was fertile and agile. But Sarah’s body was dead and weak. She was barren and besides that, she grew old. She had passed the age of child bearing. She needed God’s intervention to bear. She needed the grace of God. She conceived at 89 years and gave birth at 90 years. The child she bore was a product of grace. Isaac is the seed promised, who was a prototype of Christ.
Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. Galatians 3: 16
