The Prophetic

The prophetic ministry has suffered abuse due to misconceptions about the prophetic ministry. Sound and Biblical doctrine is very important in bringing order into the church. The disorder in the church is due to the disorder in the doctrinal position of the church.

The Doctrine of the Prophetic Ministry

Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

1 Timothy 5: 17

The failure to understand the purpose of a thing leads to abuse. The prophetic ministry is part of God’s agenda, but it is the ignorance of God’s agenda that has led to abuse of the prophetic ministry. What is the prophetic ministry?

In order to explain what the prophetic ministry is, one should understand the genesis and the purpose of the ministry. The genesis and purpose of the prophetic solely rests in the redemptive plan of God. The prophetic ministry is redemptive. The moment the redemptive edge is removed, it turns out to be diabolical. The prophetic is Messianic in nature.

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Genesis 3: 15

Doctrine, according to the Greek word ‘Didaskalia’ is the act of teaching and what is taught. As I have already mentioned, the church is not lacking teachers, is only lacking teachings with correct theology. The prophetic ministry needs a theology that will be Christological. Theology is an organized method of interpreting scripture. While Christology is the theology of Jesus Christ and His finished work. Therefore, the prophetic should be defined within the confines of Christology.

Genesis 3: 15, is a Messianic prophecy. All the prophets and Bible personalities lived to give credence to Genesis 3: 15. The Old Testament prophets were not to prophesy their own message, no, but were moved by the Holy Spirit as they prophesied. And what did they prophesy? This question needs to be answered well in order to debunk most of the erroneous teachings and practices in the church. It is the answer to this question that can help us to identify the genuine from the false. At the moment, the church has put all in one basket, the rotten eggs and good eggs. We cannot tell the difference between the Holy Spirit led prophetic ministry and divination inspired ministry.
