He Is Seated
By Apostle Felix
11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.Hebrews 10: 11 – 13
Under the Old covenant, priests were not permitted to sit while ministering in the Tabernacle. There was no chair or chairs provided for sitting. They ministered while standing. The reason why there were no chairs provided in the Tabernacle was because the work of redemption had not yet been finished. Moses’ Tabernacle and the rituals therein were shadows and types, pointing to the coming Christ.
4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:
5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.Hebrews 8: 4, 5
The types and shadows were never meant to settle the issue of sin permanently. The sacrifices were made year after year as a reminder that man is still in a sinful state. Therefore, the priests were not permitted to sit in the Tabernacle. The sitting signifies the work is permanently done. It is finished. The Son of God, Jesus Christ was born into this world to come and settle the problem of sin once and for all through His death and resurrection. Unfortunately, His own did not recognize Him as the One the law and prophets talked about.
5 So when Jesus the Messiah came into the world he said, “Since your ultimate desire was not another animal sacrifice, you have clothed me with a body that I might offer myself instead!
6 Multiple burnt offerings and sin-offerings cannot satisfy your justice.
7 So I said to you, ‘God—I will be the One to go and do your will, to fulfill all that is written of me in your Word!’ ”Hebrews 10: 5 – 7
The Word had to take up flesh in order to qualify to be the sacrifice for the sins of man. He clothed Himself with a mortal body and subjected Himself to death. The priest under the Levitical priesthood did not qualify to die for a fellow man because the priests had to sacrifice for their own sins.
11 If any of the Levitical priests who served under the law had the power to bring us into perfection, then why did God send Christ as Priest after the likeness of Melchizedek? He should have said, “After the likeness of Aaron.” —
12 And furthermore, for God to send a new and different rank of priest, meant a new law would have had to be instituted even to allow it!Hebrews 7: 11, 12
The priesthood of Jesus was according to the order of Melchizedek, which was without end. Jesus was born from the tribe of Judah, not from Levi, the priestly tribe. The Bible figuratively says that Melchizedek was without father and mother, a man whose earthly lineage is obscure. Melchizedek’s description is the description of the Son of God.
1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.Hebrews 7: 1 – 3
Jesus came to die for our sins once and for all, and give us eternal salvation. The Levitical priesthood could not give eternal salvation because it was conducted by imperfect men. The imperfect men were not allowed to sit, but the perfect man, Jesus sat down after He had risen from the dead.
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.Hebrews 5: 9, 10
Since the Lord is seated at the right hand of God, the Father, your case is settled forever. You have been forgiven eternally, and your freedom is not yearly, but is forever. Your deliver is not in installment but has been delivered in full. You are completely delivered in Christ and He has given you rest, not relieve.
