God of Impossibilities 1

The God of Impossibilities

By Apostle Felix

17  Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:

26  Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,

27  Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

Jeremiah 32: 17, 26, 27

There is nothing too for hard for God. With Him, all things are possible. His divine power has no limitations. He is capable of doing all wishes to do. However, though nothing is impossible with Him,there are certain things that God cannot do. I would like us to first look at things God cannot do. The nature of God repudiates sin because He is holy. It is impossible for God to sin. Therefore, God cannot:

  • There is no lie in God. He is the Truth. He is predominantly truth. God does not tell the truth or live a truthful life for Him to qualify to be the truth. He is nature is truth and He is truth before He ever does something.

19  God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Numbers 23: 19

2  In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

Titus 1: 2

18  That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

Hebrews 6: 18

  • God cannot be tempted with evil. Satan uses our fleshly appetites and desires to tempt. Normally, he cannot tempt you with something you are not familiar with. He will first expose you to sexual conversations and images before he can tempt you to engage in a sexual act. God has no fleshly desires and appetites. There is absolutely no evil in Him.

13  When you are tempted don’t ever say, “God is tempting me,” for God is incapable of being tempted by evil and he is never the source of temptation.

14  Instead it is each person’s own desires and thoughts that drag them into evil and lure them away into darkness.

15  Evil desires give birth to evil actions. And when sin is fully mature it can murder you!

James 1: 13 – 15

There is a saying that has become common and popular in church circles, “What God cannot do, does not exist.” That is not true. Sin exists, but God cannot sin. There are so many things that exist and God is not the source and neither can He do them.

  • God cannot change His mind. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is not emotional like man that changes according to emotional dictates. God does not live according to the dictates of emotions, but His word.

19  God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Numbers 23: 19

The word repent in the above scripture means to regret, or to pity oneself for what one did. We can find a similar expression in Genesis 6: 6, And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. Now, the question is, can God have such kind of emotions? The writers  expressed human emotions to figuratively ascribe them to God. What man had done was abhorrent, and yet God was not surprised by man’s behaviour. This is because, God is all knowing. He knows the future.

5  Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

Psalm 147: 5

God knew that man will sin and had a plan for man’s salvation.

4  And he chose us to be his very own, joining us to himself even before he laid the foundation of the universe! Because of his great love, he ordained us, so that we would be seen as holy in his eyes with an unstained innocence.

Ephesians 1: 4

2  You are not forgotten, for you have been chosen and destined by Father God. The Holy Spirit has set you apart to be God’s holy ones, obedient followers of Jesus Christ who have been gloriously sprinkled with his blood. May God’s delightful grace and peace cascade over you many times over!

1 Peter 1: 2

8  And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Revelation 13: 8
