Faith That Overcomes
By Apostle Felix
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
1 John 5: 3 – 5
Faith is one of the Bible topics misunderstood by many believers. Faith has been made to sound like a hard to earn thing. One ought to work very hard to earn it. And the so called faith people are made to be looked at as the most privileged individuals, with a special relationship with God. Many people have abandoned christianity because faith looked like an impossible feat to obtain. They tried every means taught and preached to obtain faith but all to no avail. So many people concluded that the walk of faith was not for them because they grew frustrated. Probably, you are one of those who have given up on your attempts to have more faith in your life. You have heard testimonies of faith, and how God has been doing wonders through the lives of those that have faith. You have even tried to mimic what you have heard from some of the faith people, but yet nothing is yielding results. You have tried to confess the word of God, stay positive and and follow all the steps as taught.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.Ephesians 2: 8, 9
In order to understand faith, first we need to understand the source of faith. Faith is not a human generated substance, it is divine imparted upon the mortal. No man can generate divine faith. It comes from God upon hearing the divine word of God. What is the word of God? The word of God is Christ, the divine One.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1: 1
It is Christ the word that imparts faith upon the hearers to believe God that He is. It has no human origin, but God origin. And since faith is of God, there is no big faith or small faith. Faith is faith. Faith is the embodiment of the Person of Christ. When Christ comes into your heart, then faith has come into your heart. You don’t have to start looking for any other faith around. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing the message of Christ. It is the message of Christ that gives faith. A message about devils will give faith in devils. No wonder believers are spooky than spiritual.Do not confuse spookiness for faith. Faith is Christ-centred.
17 Faith, then, is birthed in a heart that responds to God’s anointed utterance of the Anointed One.
Romans 10: 17
This is the faith that have overcome the world. The faith that believes Jesus is the Son of God. That is simple! The same faith you had when you accepted Jesus as the Lord and Savior of your life is the same faith you need to be healed, to build the Royal Complex, to pay all your bills or to finish your project. It is the same faith. There is no special faith anywhere. God has no more faith beyond Jesus Christ. Jesus is your faith.
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Matthew 17: 20
A boy possessed of devils was brought Jesus’ disciples to cast out the devil. But they could not cast the devil. I believe they did all they had seen Jesus doing when casting out devils, but all to no avail. It was frustrating for both the boy’s father and the disciples. When Jesus came back from the mount of transfiguration, he found His disciples struggling with the devil. Probably, they had even started interviewing the devil. Jesus called them a faithless and perverse generation. A faithless and perverse person is one who does not have the truth in him and one who has turned away from the truth. He actually rebuked them. He cast out the demon out of the boy instantly. The disciples were shocked by the instance and wondered why they struggled to cast out the devil.
Jesus’ response was amazing. It was their unbelief that made them not to cast out the demon. It was not because the demon was stubborn. And Jesus said, if they had faith as small as a mustard seed, they were going to cast the devil out. The problem there was not the stubbornness of the devil but their unbelief of Christ. It has been believed that the demon that was in the boy was stubborn and could only be cast out by prayer and fasting. That’s not true. He was not referring to a demon, but to unbelief. The subject matter was unbelief, not a demon. The disciples could not cast the devil because of unbelief, so Jesus provided a solution that can help you and me to focus on Christ. The more one focuses on Christ, the more one realizes faith in Christ.
2 We look away from the natural realm and we fasten our gaze onto Jesus who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into faith’s perfection. His example is this: Because his heart was focused on the joy of knowing that you would be his, he endured the agony of the cross and conquered its humiliation, and now sits exalted at the right hand of the throne of God!
