Dominion Over Sin Part 2

By Apostle Felix

It is sin that gives death its sting and the law that gives sin its power. 1 Corinthians 15: 56 TPT

The law is what empowers sin. That may sound paradoxical, since the law is holy and righteous. What that simply means is that sin is known where the law is known. Without the law, then there is nothing to use to charge anyone against. The law does not create sin, but rather by defining what is right and wrong, it makes it clear when someone is committing a sin. In Romans 8:2, Paul refers to the “law of sin and death” which emphasizes how our sinful nature is revealed through the law.

For the “law” of the Spirit of life flowing through the anointing of Jesus has liberated us from the “law” of sin and death.

The law is not bad or evil, it is holy but in itself has no power to set the captives free. It only reveals the condition of men’s heart, and is unable to change it.

But the Scriptures make it clear that since we were all under the power of sin, we needed Jesus! And he is the Savior who brings the promise to those who believe. So until the revelation of faith for salvation was released, the law was a jailer, holding us as prisoners under lock and key until the “faith,” which was destined to be revealed, would set us free. Galatians 3: 22, 23

Before the introduction of the law, God was more tolerant with Israel than when the law was given by Moses. Israel was murmuring and complaining before the law was given but Israel was not judged, because there was no law to charge them against. Israel was plagued only after the law was given, in Exodus 32. Sin became sinful after the law.

For the law provokes punishment, and where no law exists there cannot be a violation of the law. Romans 4: 15

Sin is a violation of the law. Before the law, there was no law to violate. Instead, death (spiritual death) which was induced by Adam’s rebellion reigned over humanity. Man was separated from God on account of Adam’s sin. Sin was lying dormant until the law was given through Moses.

I once lived without a clear understanding of the law, but when I heard God’s commandments, sin sprang to life and brought with it a death sentence. The commandment that was intended to bring life brought me death instead. Romans 7: 9

The law was not given to set man free, but for man to be conscious of sin. It sensitized man of God’s standards which cannot be met by human effort. Man tried to meet God’s standards by human effort, but failed terribly. God had to send His standard, Jesus Christ to come and fulfill the demands of the law. Once Jesus fulfilled the demands of the law, He gave us the right to become sons of God, and now we have the power over sin. Jesus becoming sin was for the purpose of making us righteous, so that we can have power over sin. Sin is not conquered by human strength and religious, ceremonial rituals. No, it is through Christ Jesus that we overcome sin.
