Dominion Over Sin Part 1

By Apostle Felix

Remember this: sin will not conquer you, for God already has! You are not governed by law but governed by the reign of the grace of God. Romans 6: 14 TPT

The word sin in Romans 6: 14 comes from a Greek word, ‘Hamartia.’ The literal meaning of the word Hamartia is, ‘Missing of the mark. Sin is a declaration of independence from God. It is a nature that opposes the ordinance of God, and exalts self above God. It is an outright rebellion against God and righteous rulership. The first man, Adam and his wife missed the mark, meaning their dependence moved from God to self. They rejected the reign of God in their lives by heeding to satan’s suggestion to seek identity in the created instead of the creator. Sin brought about the consciousness of self that led to condemnation. The first man became aware of his short coming and was overwhelmed with condemnation. Adam and Eve were naked all the time before they sinned, but after sin, they became conscious of their nakedness and they died, spiritually.

When Adam sinned, the entire world was affected. Sin entered human experience, and death was the result. And so death followed this sin, casting its shadow over all humanity, because all have sinned. Romans 5: 12

Sin consciousness has been man’s problem from the time man fell. Condemnation stems from sin consciousness. Adam and Eve covered themselves with fig leaves because condemnation had been activated through sin. The tendency of trying to cover oneself started in the garden and can only be done away with when one allows Christ to be Lord and Saviour. Believers too, fall victim of condemnation when one is sin conscious. This is when we hear believers confessing unknown sins to God. The confession of unknown sins creates a sin consciousness. That attitude allows sin to have dominion over an individual. You have not been delivered from the kingdom of darkness to focus on sin, but to focus on Him, who have delivered you, whose name is Jesus Christ.

Sin was in the world before Moses gave the written law, but it was not charged against them where no law existed. Yet death reigned as king from Adam to Moses even though they hadn’t broken a command the way Adam had. The first man, Adam, was a picture of the Messiah, who was to come. Romans 5: 13, 14

Sin was in the world from Adam to Moses, but was not charged against the people. This was because there was no law to stipulate the consequences of sin. The effect of Adam’s sin, which was death, a separation from God reigned over humanity. But when the law was given through Moses, sin came alive and empowered, and then each individual person was held responsible for breaking the law. But Jesus became sin so that we can become the righteousness of God.

Now, if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has become an entirely new creation. All that is related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new. 2 Corinthians 5: 17
