Dealing With the Mindset of Impossibilities
By Apostle Felix
28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:
29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me,
30 Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
31 But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.Numbers 14: 28 – 31
The mindset of impossibility stopped Israel from entering the promised land. The journey of eleven days was translated into forty years due to their mindset. God did not stop them just because He felt like stopping them. He had to consider their mindset before allowing them to enter the promised land and face the inhabitant nations. The dispossessing the nations of the land required a mindset that was in sync with God’s word. Israel was obsessed with negativity due to the rigorous life they had lived in Egypt. God intentionally had to delay with their entering the promised land so that He could deal with the mindset of impossibility. The nation of Israel had seen the miracle working power but yet that did not change the state of their minds. Their emancipation was by the miracle hand of God. God delivered them with a mighty hand.
8 And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders:
Deuteronomy 26: 8
The miracles that were done by the hand of God did not change their mindsets. Miracles do not change minds. Any miracle based church is raising novices. Miracle seekers are the most vulnerable people to deception. Miracles are not the monopoly of God. Witches and sorcerers do perform miracles. The Egyptian magicians performed miracles in their attempt to challenge Moses. This is not to say that miracles should be abandoned by the church. No. The miracles should be there to confirm the teaching and preaching of the word of God.
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.Romans 12: 1, 2
The apostle Paul wrote the book of Romans to the church at Rome. He highlighted some very important doctrines the church needed clarity on, such as the concept of sin, justification by faith and the implications of grace. He then transitioned from the theological standpoint to a practical christian living. After having talked about doctrine, Paul then encouraged the believers at Rome to renew their minds. This is very important to note. Wrong doctrine leads to wrong believing which leads to wrong practices. Doctrine is very foundational to transforming mindsets. God gave Israel the law not necessarily for the purpose of revival but reformation. The law had no power to revive a spirit, but was able to bring about reformation. Reformation has got to do with repentance. One can repent about a particular behavior and may not mean the individual is born again. My father quit smoke. He repented of smoking but he was not born again. So Israel was given the law for reformation. The law is holy but has no power to save.
12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.Romans 7: 12, 13
The law emphasized conduct. It prescribed how Israel should live his life with one another and how he should relate with God through the rituals. It was more about Israel living right in order to be accepted by God. However, apostle Paul emphasized transforming our lives by the renewing of our minds by the word of God. It is the right thinking that determines right living and not vice versa.
