All Things Are Possible
By Apostle Felix
23 Jesus said to him, “What do you mean ‘if’? If you are able to believe, all things are possible to the believer.”
24 When he heard this, the boy’s father cried out with tears, saying, “I do believe, Lord; help my little faith!”
Mark 9: 23, 24
A certain father had brought his son, who had epilepsy and possessed with a demon to Jesus’ disciples for help. The disciples did all they knew and had seen Jesus doing to heal and cast out devils but to no avail. They prayed and shouted at the devil but failed to cast out the devil. It was frustrating to both the disciples and the father’s boy. The entire ordeal was tiring and it made them to start doubting their faith. The faith of the disciples disappointed them and the father of the boy. Faith is very pivotal in our relationship with God. It is practically impossible to relate with God without faith. The righteous live by faith.
17 This gospel unveils a continual revelation of God’s righteousness—a perfect righteousness given to us when we believe. And it moves us from receiving life through faith, to the power of living by faith. This is what the Scripture means when it says: “We are right with God through life-giving faith!”
Romans 1: 17
Faith has to be explained in the context of the finished work of Christ. It is possible to have faith in faith. What many call faith is faith in faith, not necessarily faith in Christ. We often hear motivation speakers referring to positive thinking and positive talk as faith. It is good to have a positive disposition and positive vocabulary, but that is not the faith in Christ. One can be positive but yet Christless. Therefore, faith has to be explained in order to avoid confusion. The Bible does not teach positivism but it teaches formation into Christ-like nature. When Jesus said that, ‘All things are possible,’ He did not mean that you can have whatever you want in life. It is important to examine the context in which the words were spoken. Jesus was addressing the problem of the faithless of the disciples and the father of the boy. They could not cast out the demon out of the boy due to unbelief. The father was not too sure if Jesus was able to help his son because the disciples had failed to cast the demon out. The boy’s father expressed his unbelief when asking Jesus if He could help. Jesus addressed the unbelief the boy’s father expressed. The man’s faith was in man’s ability instead of Christ. The ‘All things possible’ faith is the faith in the ability of Christ to bring to pass His will in our lives. It is believing in God’s power to fulfill His will and purpose in our lives. God’s power is not for obtaining everything man wants. Remember, Jesus prayed for the cup of suffering to be taken away from Him, but yet He submitted Himself to God’s will.
39 Then he walked a short distance away, and overcome with grief, he threw himself facedown on the ground and prayed, “My Father, if there is any way you can deliver me from this suffering, please take it from me. Yet what I want is not important, for I only desire to fulfill your plan for me.” Then an angel from heaven appeared to strengthen him.
Matthew 26: 39
God does not give us everything that we want. The ‘All things are possible’ faith is not a blank cheque presented to us to fill in anything we want. It is a call to rely and trust in the power and ability of God to do what He has promised. The ‘All things’ is the context of what God has intended in your life. The ‘I can do all things through Christ…’ scripture has been abused a lot by many. When read out of context, the assumption is that one can do all things. But apostle Paul mentioned the circumstances he had gone through and overcame.
11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
