The Curse of Disunity Part 6

Confusion

1  And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
2  And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
3  Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. 

Genesis 9: 1 – 3

God blessed Noah and his three sons after the flood. God repeated the same blessing He had pronounced upon Adam. This was a reset. The first man, Adam, started to operate in the rest of God when He had finished creating all and rested. When God rested from His work, man began to operate in the finished work of God. The Bible says that Noah found favor with God because he represented the rest. The reset then started with Noah, who is rest, just like the initial set of humanity, Adam and Eve, started in rest. Rest ensures unity, order, and dominion. From this man, Noah, just like Adam, came the nations of the earth.

33  For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

1 Corinthians 14: 33

16  For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. 

James 3: 16

Though Noah and his sons survived the flood, they did not survive the confusion that had entrenched humanity’s lives. Unfortunately, Noah’s family became a victim of the confusion later after the flood. The sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, are the three sons who populated the earth.

19  These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread. 
Gen 9:20  And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: 
21  And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. 
22  And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.

Genesis 9: 19 – 22

On this fateful day, Noah got drunk with wine and slept naked in his tent. And his son Ham found him naked and instead went out to call his brothers to come and see their father’s nakedness. Noah was wrong to get drunk and sleep naked in his tent. But Ham, Noah’s son, was supposed to cover the shame of his father and protect him from public shame. Here was a son who was committed to disgracing his father. But his brothers, Shem and Japheth, covered their father and refused to behold their father’s nakedness. When Noah realized what had happened, he cursed his grandson, Canaan. This was the first time after the flood that a curse was pronounced upon someone. Ham disregarded honor regardless of his father’s behavior and incurred a curse upon his son, Canaan.

A lesson we can learn from Noah and Ham’s account is that honor is a choice one makes to give to someone regardless of who they are. You may disagree on certain matters, but choosing to honor is appropriate.  They may not be your favorites, but avoid dishonoring them in public places. This is not to say that one should protect wrongdoing, such as sexual abuse and manipulation of others. Neither should we support injustice against humanity. We have to condemn injustice. But let us protect a brother or sister who is struggling with certain things and willing to be helped. Do not carry their names around and let everyone know what their problems are. That is not right. It is confusion and disorder.
