God Chose You

God Chose You

By Apostle Felix

11  (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)
12  It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

Romans 9: 11, 12

One of the scriptures we struggle to understand is Romans chapter nine verse thirteen. It is a scripture that sounds contradicting the nature of God. How can the loving God hate at the same time. The scripture says that God loved Jacob, but He hated Esau. It sounds like Esau had no choice at all but to be hated by God. God is often accused of partiality when this portion of scripture is read without the understanding of the nature of God. God is not partial.

17  But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

James 3: 17

The wisdom from above is the wisdom of God, and is without partiality and without hypocrisy. God choosing Jacob over Esau is the demonstration of His wisdom as opposed to partiality. The wisdom of God is the all knowing aspect of God. He knows the past, present and future all at the same time. Just like He knew that Adam will sin, God provided Himself as the atoning sacrifice way before man sinned. That was the wisdom of God at work.

19  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20  Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
21  Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

1 Peter 1: 19 – 21

Therefore, in the case of Esau, God knew the decision he will make later in life. Esau did not just despise his birthright but the Christ. He rejected the lineage of Christ on the expense of momentarily pleasure. God did not just reject Esau, but Esau rejected the plan of salvation for mankind. God does not hate man or reject him. It is man that makes choices that disqualify him from the presence of God. For example, Adam rejected life and went for what God had told him not to do. It was Adam and his wife that ran away from God. Not God. He came looking for Adam and Eve.

8  And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
9  And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

Genesis 3: 8, 9

Esau made a bad decision that affected his destine. So, the apostle Paul’s words were meant to express the gravity of what Esau had done. God hated the decision Esau had made to reject the plan of salvation. This was because the entire book of the Bible is to show us the way of salvation through Christ Jesus.

Jacob was chosen by God, not because he was a perfect dude. He was far from perfection. He was chosen by God because of the decision and desire his expressed in the birthright. The birthright gave right to inherit the blessing. The blessing is the presence of God. The absence of the presence of God is the presence of a curse. The presence of God can only be restored in Christ Jesus. Jacob’s acceptance of the plan of salvation, made him to find favor with God. Your acceptance in God is based on how good and perfect you are, but by receiving the perfect lamb, Jesus Christ.
