You Are Free From Dominion of Sin
By Apostle Felix
14 Remember this: sin will not conquer you, for God already has! You are not governed by law but governed by the reign of the grace of God.
Romans 6: 14
You did not declare yourself free from the dominion of sin, but Christ did. The freedom which we enjoy in Christ is not man’s doing or man’s idea, it is the Lord’s. This plan has been founded on the grace of God, and it has no human contribution to it. It is solely the Lord’s doing. So many times, we behave as though we have a hand in it, but it is the grace of the God. The victory over sin is predicated on Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. No other man was worthy to die for another man. But Jesus, the Son of God, who Himself is holy righteous decided to become sin and be punished for the crime He never committed. Sin was defeated in His body on our behalf.
6 Could it be any clearer that our former identity is now and forever deprived of its power? For we were co-crucified with him to dismantle the stronghold of sin within us, so that we would not continue to live one moment longer submitted to sin’s power.
7 Obviously, a dead person is incapable of sinning.Romans 6: 6, 7
The death and resurrection of Christ is very fundamental to understand our freedom from sin. Christ identified with us in sin, we died with Him in sin, we were buried with Him in death, but on the third day He rose with us in victory over sin. Every believer in Christ has been made righteous and given victory over sin. This is not about feelings or what you did last night, but it is all about the reality of His resurrection from the dead. You might be asking, but why do I find myself in a place where I am constantly falling into sin and living constantly in condemnation. Paul had the question answered in Romans chapter six. The problem is not because sin has power or the devil is overwhelmingly strong. No, it is only because we want to keep our righteousness status by observing the law, or rather imposing legalistic measures upon ourselves. By the way, you got saved by grace and it should be grace to sustain you. But we have ourselves trying to make it all right by human efforts. This is when we hear people say, I will only come to church after I have made things right with God. How foolish is that? How can you make anything right with God, when it is Him who made it right for us in the first place.
20 So then, the law was introduced into God’s plan to bring the reality of human sinfulness out of hiding. And yet, wherever sin increased, there was more than enough of God’s grace to triumph all the more!
Romans 5: 20
The purpose of the law was to make sin come to light. The law brought the awareness about the reality of sin. The law is good and holy, but in itself has no power to save. Therefore, the Son of God came and was born under the law and died under the law so that you and me can live under grace. A believer who lives under the law will constantly be living under condemnation. But Jesus did not come into this world to condemn, John 3: 17. He rather came to save us from the penalty of sin. The woman caught in the very act of adultery was brought to Jesus to be condemned. It was the law that brought the woman to Jesus. The law believers brought the woman to Jesus, who is grace to be condemned. But grace cannot do that. Grace forgives and empowers grace believers not to sin, or rather live in sin.
11 Looking around, she replied, “I see no one, Lord.” Jesus said, “Then I certainly don’t condemn you either. Go, and from now on, be free from a life of sin.”
