Totally Forgiven and Free

1  Let me be clear, the Anointed One has set us free—not partially, but completely and wonderfully free! We must always cherish this truth and stubbornly refuse to go back into the bondage of our past.
2  I, Paul, tell you: If you think there is benefit in circumcision and Jewish regulations, then you’re acting as though Jesus the Anointed One is not enough.

Galatians 5: 1, 2

There is freedom in forgiveness. Forgiveness has the power to destroy hostility between individuals and nations. A man that fails to forgive falls into the hands of the tormentors. Likewise, a man who rejects forgiveness becomes a slave of condemnation. The freedom from condemnation is not predicated on one’s self righteousness but on the ability to receive the forgiveness that the Lord has provided through the Christ. I have encountered individuals who have confidence in the right living to escape condemnation. But such individuals are constantly living in condemnation and guilt. Ever claiming how good they are because they neither drink alcohol nor fornicate, but yet they have rejected what the Lord has provided for their justification. It is our deeds and behavior that justifies but the forgiveness of God through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

24  Yet through his powerful declaration of acquittal, God freely gives away his righteousness. His gift of love and favor now cascades over us, all because Jesus, the Anointed One, has liberated us from the guilt, punishment, and power of sin! 

Romans 3: 24

Forgiveness is not earned through works, but it is given freely by His grace. No one has the rights to earn, but everyone has the rights to receive it. Children of Israel tried to earn God’s forgiveness through the works of righteousness but failed miserably. They those who feel they have earned God’s approval by their standards. Christ’s death on the cross was for everyone born into this world, whether you are upright and blameless according to civil standards in your community or country. He died for every human being who ever walked this earth.

The forgiveness of God is both postpaid and prepaid. It is postpaid in the sense that Christ has paid the debt and you and me only receive forgiven for every offense, past, present and future for free. The forgiveness of God is prepaid in the sense that the debt has been settled in full, and there is nothing that has be left to be done for you and me to be forgiven. There is no amount of prayer that can guarantee forgiveness. No amount good deeds or behavior guarantees forgiveness. Forgiveness is solely predicated on Christ’s finished work.

30  When he had sipped the sour wine, he said, “It is finished, my bride!” Then he bowed his head and surrendered his spirit to God. 

John 19: 30

Jesus cried, ‘IT IS FINISHED’ on the cross. The word ‘finished’ in Greek is ‘Teleo’ which means to ‘To end, complete, execute, conclude, discharge, accomplish, make an end, expire.’ Jesus cried out victory against the condemnation that had held man in bondage. He fulfilled the requirements the law in His own body and the debt was fully paid, so that you and I can fully receive forgiveness. He made an end to the demands the law had on man. Man had to capacity to meet the demands of the law for his forgiveness. Jesus came and fulfilled the demands of the law for man’s forgiveness and freedom.The rejection of the amazing forgiveness in Christ is one’s full surrender to bondage.
