The Treasure
By Apostle Felix
44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
Matthew 13: 44
The Kingdom of God is the realm of God’s ruler-ship and reign. The realm of God is the reign of redemption. When Jesus had began to preach, He said, ‘the kingdom of God is at hand.’ The kingdom of God is a treasure. It is the realm of God’s love and joy. The apostle of grace, Paul said in Romans fourteen verse seventeen.
17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of rules about food and drink, but is in the realm of the Holy Spirit, filled with righteousness, peace, and joy.
Romans 14: 17
This kingdom should be coveted above else. Mind you, there is another kingdom that is constantly competing for the souls of men. Jesus warned us against that kingdom in Mark chapter eight verse thirty eight.
36 For what use is it to gain all the wealth and power of this world, with everything it could offer you, at the cost of your own life?
Mark 8: 36
In the parable of the lost treasure, Jesus was demonstrating how we should treasure the kingdom of God. It is very common to regard the kingdom as one of the items in our baskets. But Jesus put it in this way that the kingdom of God is like a treasure that has been hidden in the field, which a certain man found. He then hid the treasure, went and sold all he had so he could buy the field. The man did that with joy. He sold all had for the sake of buying a field that looked deserted, empty and useless. But there was a treasure lying there.
The focus of the parable is on the value of the kingdom of God. There are other things one can value but the kingdom of God surpasses them all. The man went and sold all he had just to go and buy the field where he had hidden a treasure. The kingdom of God is worth losing everything for. Apostle Paul put it in this way in Philippians chapter three verse seven and eight.
7 Yet all of the accomplishments that I once took credit for, I’ve now forsaken them and I regard it all as nothing compared to the delight of experiencing Jesus Christ as my Lord!
8 To truly know him meant letting go of everything from my past and throwing all my boasting on the garbage heap. It’s all like a pile of manure to me now, so that I may be enriched in the reality of knowing Jesus Christ and embrace him as Lord in all of his greatness.Philippians 3: 7, 8
The kingdom of God cannot be sought with a divided attention. It has to be a priority one’s live in order to experience the full manifestation of the glory of the kingdom. Jesus urged us to seek only the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Needless to say, today’s gospel is more centred on what one get from God than God, Himself. Church advertisements look like a witch doctor’s advert, who is soliciting for customers. It is so sad to see that Christ has been relegated in most of all church activities. Other things have become a treasure and Christ is the possession sold in order to buy the other things. His name is mentioned but as a means to get what one wants.
Let us revisit our priorities and begin to rearrange them. Christ is our treasure and should be treated as so. Serve Him reverentially and all shall be added to you. He does not withhold anything from us, but gives us all things freely.
33 “So above all, constantly chase after the realm of God’s kingdom and the righteousness that proceeds from him. Then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly.
