The Goodness of God

3  Everything we could ever need for life and complete devotion to God has already been deposited in us by his divine power. For all this was lavished upon us through the rich experience of knowing him who has called us by name and invited us to come to him through a glorious manifestation of his goodness. 

2 Peter 1: 3

The goodness of the Lord leads us to repentance. Our God is good. And His intentions for you and me are good. God’s goodness is the extravagant kindness that He has demonstrated towards His people. He displayed His extravagant kindness in Christ when He was crucified for our sins. All that God does is motivated by His extravagant kindness.

4  Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

Romans 2: 4

God’s goodness can also be see through His creation. He created the planet earth to primarily sustain man. It was created for man. The earth is man’s abode. That’s the goodness of God demonstrated through creation. The vegetation, the animal kingdom, the birds of the air and all creation was created to make man’s life good. Just by observing creation would make one to realize the goodness of God.

20  Opposition to truth cannot be excused on the basis of ignorance, because from the creation of the world, the invisible qualities of God’s nature have been made visible, such as his eternal power and transcendence. He has made his wonderful attributes easily perceived, for seeing the visible makes us understand the invisible. So then, this leaves everyone without excuse.

Romans 1: 20

Man enjoys God’s creation without acknowledging the God behind the beauty of creation. We do receive European tourists and from other places, who come to tour the beauty of God’s creation in Africa. Yet, man has rejected and despised God, the creator of all the wonderful things they appreciate. God’s goodness is so obvious to anyone’s eyes. We see His goodness almost every day. Just get to look around you and you are going to see God’s finger prints of His goodness.

His ultimate goodness was demonstrated in Jesus. Jesus took our place of condemnation and He was condemned. He became sin and took the curse upon Himself, so that you and I can be made righteous and be blessed through Him. That’s the goodness of God. A man has now found acceptance and love in Christ. The death of Jesus was the demonstration of His goodness. His death looked ugly and cruel but yet it was for the benefit of man. His death facilitated the goodness of God to made manifest in our lives.
