How To Live A Victorious Life Over Sin

How To Live A Victorious Life Over Sin

By Apostle Felix

14  Remember this: sin will not conquer you, for God already has! You are not governed by law but governed by the reign of the grace of God.

Romans 6: 14

The Greek word for sin is ‘Hamartia‘ which means to ‘miss the mark’ or ‘to fail in one’s purpose.’ Sin has been man’s greatest problem. And he has been living in sin hopelessly before Christ died and rose from the dead. Sin made man to dysfunction. He could not operate at his best. Sin is the thing that stands between man and God. It is the wall of hostility.

Sin brought about separation between God and man. Initially, it was not so until man sinned against the Lord, he lost the fellowship he once enjoyed with God. Sin is a separator. Sin does not only separate but also brings spiritual death. Sin gives legal access to death. Adam, the first man died spiritually the moment he sinned. How can man then overcome sin?

How to Overcome

There is no other way sin can be defeated except in Christ. There is only man that defeated sin, that is Jesus Christ. He became sin so that we can become the righteousness of God.

21  For God made the only one who did not know sin to become sin for us, so that we who did not know righteousness might become the righteousness of God through our union with him.

2 Corinthians 5: 21

Sin is not defeated by confessing our sins, but by acknowledging the One who became sin and defeated it in His own body, the Lord Jesus Christ. We confess Christ in order to overcome sin. Neither do we overcome sin by our own efforts to quit the life of sin. Our efforts are futile in producing a righteous life. It is only when Jesus comes to live in our lives that our nature changes from sinful to righteous.

11  So let it be the same way with you! Since you are now joined with him, you must continually view yourselves as dead and unresponsive to sin’s appeal while living daily for God’s pleasure in union with Jesus, the Anointed One.

Romans 6: 11

While in Christ, we must continually view ourselves as dead to sin, and be conscious of our position of righteousness. The problem with believers is sin consciousness. Probably you have attended a prayer meeting where demands were made to confess the sins before engaging in prayer. Oftentimes, in such prayer meetings, believers are even asked to confess their unknown sins. Such kind of approach creates a sin consciousness mindsets in believers. It is, therefore, important to recognize that our righteousness is as a result of our union with Christ. And there is no amount of confessing that can undo sin, but only confessing Jesus Christ as Lord.

The other aspect of our being that we need to attend in our quest for overcoming sin is our minds. Victory is attained in the soulish realm. Once a believer is convinced that there is an unfinished business in his life then such a believer will struggle to live a victorious life. The devil targets the soul of man to corrupt it with thoughts of quilt and condemnation in order to bring down a believer.

3  For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
6  And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
