Dealing With The Mindset of Impossibilities 3
By Apostle Felix
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.Luke 5: 4 – 6
The men had fished the whole night and yet caught nothing. It was a very frustrating night for Peter and his men. They had tried their best and exhausted every possible means to catch some fish. But all effort was to no avail. It was a total failure business trip they had. Their families were waiting in great anticipation for their husbands and fathers to come back home with food. Just the thought of going home without anything was depressing. They didn’t know how to deal with the situation at hand. There are moments when one runs out of options. The only option left is to give up. Peter and his friends had opted to give up and just go home empty handed. At the moment, it was impossible for them to try to fish again. The conditions for fishing could not allow them to do so.
However, Jesus came at a time when the fishermen were distressed. Jesus knew about their situation when He borrowed their boat to use for the purpose of preaching. Upon finishing preaching, Jesus asked the Peter and his friends to cast their nets into the deep. The suggestion was impossible. These men were fishermen and understood their trade very well. Fish is not caught during the day. To them, Jesus was asking them to do the impossible. But they decided to do something that changed the narrative of fishing industry. They decided to cast their nets at Jesus’ word. Today, we are going to look at what one can do to deal with the mindset of impossibility.
How To Deal with the Mindset of Impossibility
1. Believe the gospel.
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
Mark 1: 15
The gospel is the message of Jesus and what He has done for man. It is not possible to believe the gospel without believing in Christ. Christ is the embodiment of the gospel., the good news. Believe that He suffered, died and rose from the dead for you. Believing is the initial step to dealing with the mindset of impossibility. Believe that it is possible for a sinner to become righteous in Christ.
2. Change the skin.
17 And who would pour fresh, new wine into an old wineskin? Eventually the wine will ferment and make the wineskin burst, losing everything—the wine is spilled and the wineskin ruined. Instead, new wine is always poured into a new wineskin so that both are preserved.”
Matthew 9: 17
Change comes with desire. There cannot be change without desiring to change first. Change cannot be imposed but desired. The mindset of impossibility can be old skin that has lost its viscosity due to old age and lack of frequent servicing in the word of God. Eagles are known for renewing their strength almost annually. It is a process that requires discipline. Change takes determination. One cannot break free from a mindset of impossibility with a passive attitude.
3. There is something you can do.
2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
2 Kings 4: 2
It takes the realization that there is something one can do to break free from the mindset of impossibility. What limits many is the thinking that there is nothing they can do to change their situation. Every person born into this world has a gift or talent. Simply search within and you will discover a treasure what you thoguht was insignificant.
4. Learn from others.
3 Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
2 Kings 4: 3
Do not be proud to learn from others. Learning leverages your gift. Look around and find those who are producing the results you desire to produce. Borrow their systems, while maintaining your uniqueness. The woman borrowed the vessels, not the oil.
5. Step out in faith.
2Ki 4:4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
2 Kings 4: 4
Faith is a game changer in your quest to deal with the mindset of impossibilities. It can be faith that can move a woman with little oil to continue pouring into the vessels. The step she took challenged her mindset. Every limitation that was there was destroyed that night. Step out in faith even when nothing is making sense.
