Growth Attitudes
By Apostle Felix
11 The blessing of favour resting upon the righteous influences a city to lift it higher, but wicked leaders tear it apart by their words.
Proverbs 11: 11
Growth in any area of life can be directly attributed to attitude; it is never a matter of luck, but rather the deliberate cultivation of our enemies. Our attitudes are fundamentally formed by the words we consistently give our attention to. At its core, an attitude is an internal perspective expressed outwardly through our behaviour and speech—it is simply the true condition of the heart manifesting in daily life. This internal state plays a major role in a person’s development.
While this is true for personal development, it is critically true for spiritual growth. True spiritual maturity is entirely predicated on the quality of the words we consume. You cannot feed on the junk of the world and expect to experience robust spiritual growth. Ultimately, whatever word of God is stored in our hearts is what will eventually flood our mouths, because it is impossible to speak what has not first been established within your spirit. As Jesus clearly explained, the mouth naturally speaks from the overflow of the heart.
45 People are known in this same way. Out of the virtue stored in their hearts, good and upright people will produce good fruit. But out of the evil hidden in their hearts, evil ones will produce what is evil. For the overflow of what has been stored in your heart will be seen by your fruit and will be heard in your words.
Luke 6: 45
The state of the heart directly determines the state of a person’s overall well-being, meaning you can never rise above the internal condition of your heart. Far too often, people desperately want to change their external circumstances without first allowing their hearts to be transformed. Unfortunately, the modern church has sometimes done very little to help believers understand the vital importance of heart transformation. Instead, teaching is frequently misdirected, blaming the negative state of a person’s life entirely on the presence of territorial spirits or generational curses.
Particularly across Africa, demons are heavily preached as the primary source of every human affliction, completely bypassing the real issue: the unaligned heart of man. While demonic influences are undeniably real, it is biblically inaccurate to attribute every personal failure or problem to them. The glorious truth of the gospel is that every true believer has already been completely set free from demonic domination and permanently transferred into the marvelous Kingdom of God through Christ Jesus.
13 He has rescued us completely from the tyrannical rule of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom realm of his beloved Son.
Colossians 1: 13
Consequently, since you have been completely delivered from the rule of darkness, demons cannot be held responsible for the condition of your life without your permission. Demon spirits are only permitted to execute their dark agendas against you when your heart—which encompasses your soul, mind, and emotions—is actively conformed to the broken patterns of this world. This is precisely why continuous spiritual growth is critically important to sustaining a victorious life. True spiritual maturity comes by intentionally developing holy habits, such as consistently reading, meditating on, and studying the Word of God. It is only the Word of God, deeply internalized, that forms the godly attitudes necessary to shut the door on the enemy and walk in absolute freedom.
