Expansion Through Fervent Prayer
By Apostle Felix
24 When the believers heard their report, they raised their voices in unity and prayed, “Lord Yahweh, you are the Lord of all! You created the universe—the earth, the sky, the sea, and everything that is in them.
Acts 4: 24
Prayer plays a vital role in every area of our lives, positioning us to receive the Lord’s instruction for our next steps. It protects us from acting presumptuously and allows us to discern what the Lord desires from us in every moment. A praying person is far more likely to be led by the Holy Spirit than someone who neglects prayer. This active leading of the Spirit is critical to living a victorious life, as the Holy Spirit will never guide us into defeat or destruction; He always leads us into triumph.
2 Therefore David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.
3 And David’s men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?
4 Then David enquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand.1 Samuel 23: 2 – 4
David was a dedicated inquirer who purposed in his heart to consult the Lord before every battle. Instead of marching out presumptuously, he relied entirely on divine guidance to ensure total victory. In fact, he famously inquired of the Lord twice regarding the exact same matter. Even though David was a mighty, highly experienced warrior, he still sought God’s counsel every single time he faced an enemy. He refused to rely solely on his own military skills or the strength of his men, placing his ultimate trust in the leading of the Holy Spirit instead. A person who consistently inquires of the Lord will not lose their battles; they will continue to grow and expand in every arena of life, because seeking God is the ultimate expression of total reliance on Him.
5 Does the Scripture mean nothing to you that says, “The Spirit that God breathed into our hearts is a jealous Lover who intensely desires to have more and more of us”?
6 But he continues to pour out more and more grace upon us. For it says, God resists you when you are proud but continually pours out grace when you are humble.”James 4: 5, 6
Prayer is the ultimate proof of our humility; it is an admission that we cannot succeed on our own and are completely dependent on God. Conversely, prayerlessness serves as a breeding ground for pride—and pride inevitably chokes out growth, acting like a toxic weed in a flourishing garden. A praying person or church effectively roots out this pride, choosing instead to rely solely on the Lord. Because an atmosphere of humility facilitates supernatural expansion, it allows every believer to participate in God’s work without resistance. A praying individual or congregation remains pliable and ready to execute divine instructions. On the other hand, the most difficult people or churches to work with are those who neglect prayer; they may be morally upright, but they are incredibly difficult to mobilize into what the Holy Spirit is actively doing.
