28  And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:

29  And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.

Genesis 5: 28, 29

The Hebrew word used for son in Genesis chapter five verse twenty-eight is “Bane,” which means a “Builder of a family, or nation.” The son Lamech had was a builder of a new nation of rest. Since there was no Savior to die for man’s rebellion, God had to do a reset in humanity through the flood. The ark and the flood were a typology pointing to the emergence of a holy nation in Christ.

The sons of Adam had multiplied about the earth, especially in the Middle East. There were two main lineages in existence at the time. The two lineages were Cain’s and Seth’s. The two families had opposing values of life. With time, the two families allied through intermarriages. Hence, Seth’s lineage was corrupted. Man became so corrupt that it prompted God to reset man’s lineage.

1  And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
2  That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
3  And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 

Genesis 6: 1 – 3

There are so many beliefs around this portion of Scripture. It has long been believed that angels descended to marry the daughters of men and produce giants on earth. But the belief does not hold water because Jesus said that angels do not marry. Spirits can’t marry.

29  Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
30  For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. 

Matthew 22: 29, 30

Preachers use Genesis chapter six to support the doctrine of spiritual husbands and wives. That’s a wrong teaching, brethren, that cannot be supported by the Scriptures. Immortal men marry immortal women. Marriage is only for humans while on earth. Genesis chapter six does not support the spiritual husband doctrine. The lesson there is not about a spiritual husband but the unequally yoked of the righteous and the unrighteous. It teaches us how the righteous can be corrupted when they compromise their godly values. Seth’s family compromised their values by marrying into Cain’s family. The sons of God are not referring to angels, but sons from Seth’s lineage.

14  Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15  And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

2 Corinthians 6: 14, 15

The union between Seth and Cain called for a reset. This was because the union between Seth and Cain displeased the Lord. The alliance produced rebellion on the earth, and the entire human race was drowning in it. The alliance between Seth and Cain through marriage was a typology of man’s alliance with darkness. The moment man allies with darkness, he annihilates himself from light. Therefore, the dead and the Living God cannot be in union. Light and darkness cannot unite. When the union between Seth and Cain happened, God had to reset the human race. The reset was the demonstration of God’s grace and mercy. The death of sin is the only way to bring salvation to the human race from annihilation.
