This Christmas!
By Apostle Felix
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.Luke 2: 9 – 11
In today’s devotional, we are going to talk about Christmas. It is the recognized and celebrated festive in the world. Both Christians and non-christians do celebrate Christmas. We are not going to look into the origins of Christmas, both rather look at why Christ was born. Christ was born for the purpose of saving mankind from the penalty of sin through death and resurrection. He was given to the man as a gift by God, the Father. He is the ultimate gift of all.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3: 16
The birth date and day is unknown. No one knows when Christ was born. The Bible does not give us the details of His date and day of birth. However, the Bible does tell us that Christ was born. The date and the day are non-essentials, but the most thing is that He was born to give Himself as a sacrificial lamb. He was not born so that His birth can be celebrated. But we do celebrate His birth because the Saviour of the world was born one day into world.
Now, to appreciate this season of the year, we have to see Christmas through the eyes of Christ. What would Christ like us do Christmas? I believe Christ would the following s things on this Christmas:
1. As much as we celebrate, let us also recognize His Lordship in our lives. The Bible tells us the reason Christ was born, which was to destroy the works of the devil. He was born to reinforce, but to destroy. So, Christmas should be about reinforcing what Christ accomplished.
2. Spend time with your family. For the most part, you are busying working and we never get to find time to be with our families. Attend each others’ emotional needs as a family.
3. Remember the poor. The little you do for the poor you do to the Lord. Christ was given as the gift to the world, so then let us remember underprivileged to feed and clothe them.
4 Visit those in hospitals and prisons. This is a group of people that are somehow confined to one place. Most of them long to be with their families, but they can’t.
5. Plan for the coming year. Someone has said, if you fail plan, plan to fail. The best way a new year is with a plan for the year. A plan gives you a sense of direction and purpose. You will not just stumble into a year, but walk into it with full assurance of what you want.
