Winning Souls

16  For this is how much God loved the world—he gave his one and only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life.

John 3: 16

The love God has for man is unconditional and immeasurable. His love for man is incomparable. What is man that you are mindful of him? All creation stands in awe as they watch how God demonstrates His love towards man. The angels too, stand in awe of this being that is so loved by God of all creation.

4  What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 

Psalm 8: 4

God’s love for man is phenomenal. It can only be phenomenal love for God to do what He did for mankind. He sacrificed His only One Son, Jesus for the sins of man. He did not withhold but gave His best, Jesus Christ. He went an extra mile in demonstrating His love for man. It was His love for man that made Jesus to endure the shame and all the pain He went through.

6  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 

7  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 

8  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 

Philippians 2: 6 – 8

Winning souls from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light becomes a matter of urgency, because the most loved creation of God, man is heading for destruction. The saving of souls is paramount in God’s agenda and it has to be paramount with anyone born of God. The highest form of love man demonstrate for man is the sharing of the gospel of Christ.

30  The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. 

Proverbs 11: 30

The winning of souls is equated to wisdom. Wisdom is regarded as the principal thing in Proverbs 4: 7,  wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom… A church or an individual that wins souls into the kingdom of God will be regarded wise in God’s sight. The principal thing in the kingdom of God is winning souls. What the world regards to be important and priority is less important in the kingdom of God. It is then necessary for the church to evaluate its priorities from time to time. It’s very possible for the church to be occupied with activities that are not a priority with the Lord. The church has become more introverted and is busy with activities that are intended at promoting self. The Ephesian church was sound in doctrine, but yet had lost its first love. The Spirit of God encouraged the Ephesian church to go back to its first works. What were the first works? I believe had to do with evangelism and disciple making.

4  Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 

5  Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. 

Revelation 2: 4, 5

Winning souls demonstrates how much we love God. It is impossible to love God and not be a soul winner. The lovers of God are lovers of humanity. God so loved the world that He gave His Son for the redemption of man. The love of God in our hearts will compel us to preach the gospel to those that are perishing. If you claim to love God and yet don’t win souls, something might be wrong with your relationship with God. The more you get to love God, the more you fall in love with God’s object of His love. Your heart will swell with God’s compassion, the more you become intimate with God.
