Why Pray In the Name of Jesus?

Why Pray In The Name of Jesus

By Apostle Felix

13  For I will do whatever you ask me to do when you ask me in my name. And that is how the Son will show what the Father is really like and bring glory to him.
14  Ask me anything in my name, and I will do it for you!”

John 14: 13, 14

In yesterday’s devotional, we looked at the power in the name of Jesus. What the name of Jesus really is. We said that the power in the name of Jesus has got to do with reputation of the person, who is the name bearer. Not necessarily the name itself. Two different people can bear the same name and yet carry different reputations in society. Both can bear the name, Abraham, but one can be president Abraham, and commanding so much power and authority, while the other can be prisoner Abraham, locked up in prison, kept away from society as a criminal. President Abraham’s authority is in his presidential office because of his reputation. His presidency gives credibility to his name. The presidency has given him even immunity to his name. The authority of his name is derived from his office as a president.

6 A child has been born for us; a son has been given to us. The responsibility of complete dominion will rest on his shoulders, and his name will be: the Wonderful One, the Extraordinary Strategist, the Mighty God, the Father of Eternity, the Prince of Peace!

Isaiah 9: 6

The reason why we should pray in the name of Jesus is because the name bearer is a responsible God. Jesus is God, who has been given a position that is higher than any position both in heaven and on earth. So, praying in His name is praying in undeniable power and authority. It is not the mentioning of the name, Jesus, but is in the understanding of who Christ is. It is very confusing for believers to see witches mentioning the name, Jesus and nothing is happening to them. Mind you, Hollywood actors are ever using the name, Jesus to curse. It is not the Jesus, who died, who was buried and who rose from the dead, they refer to. It is another Jesus. We have questionable preachers in churches, who are using the name, Jesus. It is not the Jesus of the Bible refer to. It is another Jesus.

Jesus, the one who came to fulfill the scriptures has the character of the Father. The authority of the name of Jesus is the character of God. So when Jesus said that we should ask in His name, he was actually referring to His character. He meant that He is a responsible God, who has the power to do whatever is asked according to His character. The asking  and the asker should match the character of Christ for God to attend to what is asked. The asker should be in right standing with God through Christ. Asking in His name is asking in Him. It is not about mentioning His name, but your position in Him. You can receive  from Christ as long as you are in Him, even without mentioning, Jesus. The name of Jesus is the position in Christ.
