Who Are You?

13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. 14  And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. 15  And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? 16  And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

Acts 19: 13 – 16

The portion of scripture above from the book of Acts, will inform us that not all  manifestations of power we witness in church is of God. We do have exorcists in church, masquerading as men and women of God. Exorcism was something that was done in the time of Jesus, even before He was born. It was a common practice that was used for financial gain. Jesus was accused of casting out devils by beelzebub, as an exorcist because there were many others who were practicing exorcism. Jesus was not an exorcist, like others. He cast the devils out by the Spirit of God.

24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. 27  And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. 28  But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

Matthew 12: 24, 27, 28

The question of identity is very critical in addressing our authority in Christ. Authority is not attached to how loud one is, but it is attached to identity. There are many noise makers without authority. It is one thing that can only be derived from identifying ourselves with Christ. It is lack of knowledge of identity in Christ that makes many to subject themselves to spiritual abuse. There are many Christians in church who are spiritual projects. They move from house to house looking for someone to deliver them from demons. That’s the most stupid thing for a believer to be chasing after.

It is the same thing Adam and Eve did in the garden of Eden. They wanted to become that which they already were. They were made in the image of God and after His likeness. Their attempt to eat from the tree in order to become was a very silly thing to do. Jesus did not fall for that when the devil suggested to Him to turn stones into bread if He was the Son of God. He already knew that He was the Son of God. He did not need to perform to prove a point. It is unwise to allow devils to validate your calling of God upon your life. There are men and women that converse with devils and getting confirmations from the devils’ mouths. We don’t chat with them, we cast them out with a word. Your identity in Christ is your authority. Who are you? You are a child of God, who has been given the power to become a son of God. And that power resides you.

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.

John 1: 12

You are not just using the name of Jesus to adjure devils. We are sons. We belong to God. We are God’s own possession. We are the righteousness of God. We are more than conquerors. We are anointed of God. We are not just mere men. We are seated with Christ in the heavenly places. I urge you to know who you in Christ in order to exercise authority in this life. Follow the May devotions and your life will never be the same. Instead of been afflicted by the enemy,  you will be laughing with Christ, who sits in the heavens. You will fully understand who you are and you will take charge.
