The Role of The Apostolic in Taking Over 2

2  Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
3  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

This is a continuation of yesterday’s devotional. We are still looking at the role of the apostolic in taking over. The messages we are exposed to largely determine the outcomes of our lives. Every believer is a product of the messages they listen to. The doctrine of the church you attend will shape your thinking and the manner in which you see your world. If the doctrine of the church you attend is about killing your enemies, then the word of Jesus to bless our enemies will not apply to you. So, the doctrine of your church will veil that truth from you and instead will be wishing death upon your enemies.

The apostolic points people to Christ, and away from traditions of men. It also debunks the ancient false narratives, beliefs and myths. The role of every preacher is to demystify the Old Covenant practices in the light of Christ. Otherwise, without demystification, the church will be practising Judaism mixed with African traditions and will be mistaken for revelation. The early church had a similar challenge of syncretism. Therefore, the apostolic shifts believers from the shadows to the substance.

16  So why would you allow anyone to judge you because of what you eat or drink, or insist that you keep the feasts, observe new moon celebrations, or the Sabbath?
17  All of these were but a prophetic shadow and the evidence of what would be fulfilled, for the body is now Christ!
18  Don’t let anyone disqualify you from your prize! Don’t let their pretended sincerity fool you as they deliberately lead you into their initiation of angel worship. For they take pleasure in pretending to be experts of something they know nothing about. Their reasoning is meaningless and comes only from their own opinions. 

Colossians 2: 16 – 18

The apostles bring light in the dark. The responsibility of the early apostles, such as Paul, was to transition the church from the shadows to the substance, from the promises to the fulfilment. Paul’s greatest opposition was from the religious people. The religious people opposed Paul and the rest of the apostles because they were preaching Christ and Him crucified. The preaching did not appeal to them because it removed an element of works. The Jews’ pride was in keeping the law. Just look at the young rich man, who came to Jesus and boasted about keeping the law. So, Jesus was looked at as a threat to their religion. The reason many churches today are afraid of preaching Christ and His grace is the fear of pastors losing authority and control over the church members. The only way a pastor can have control over the church people is to keep them away from Jesus. The Pharisees did the same, too. They kept the people away from Jesus in fear of losing them to Him.

1  Now, it’s because of God’s mercy that we have been entrusted with the privilege of this new covenant ministry. And we will not quit or faint with weariness.
2  We reject every shameful cover-up and refuse to resort to cunning trickery or distorting the Word of God. Instead, we open up our souls to you by presenting the truth to everyone’s conscience in the sight and presence of God.
3  Even if our gospel message is veiled, it is only veiled to those who are perishing,
4  for their minds have been blinded by the god of this age, leaving them in unbelief. Their blindness keeps them from seeing the dayspring light of the wonderful news of the glory of Jesus Christ, who is the divine image of God.
5  We don’t preach ourselves, but rather the lordship of Jesus Christ, for we are your servants for Jesus’ sake.
6  For God, who said, “Let brilliant light shine out of darkness,” is the one who has cascaded his light into us—the brilliant dawning light of the glorious knowledge of God as we gaze into the face of Jesus Christ.
