The Real Money
By Apostle Felix
31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.
32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?
33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.
34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.Genesis 25: 31 – 34
The account of Esau is one of those accounts one wouldn’t like to go through. Esau made a very unwise decision one can ever make to choose the intangible over the tangible. He chose food over the blessing. He wanted to satisfy his immediate appetite on the expense of the long life blessing. The decision to reject his birthright made him to lose a place in the lineage of the Messiah. Instead of his name, Esau, we now read about Jacob as Jesus’ earthly descendant. He despised the birthright because he could not see the Messiah, the anointed one. Jacob valued the birthright, hence his name is among the patriarchs of faith. Esau is remembered for the bad decision he made of settling for the intangible.
We can see the same pattern in today’s society, too. The values are misplaced. Corruption in our African societies is due to misplaced values. Stealing from the national treasury coffers is normalized, and they go scot-free even when they are caught stealing. This reason for corruption is the value attached to money. People want money without understanding real value. This is the reason why it is not in order to be emphasizing money without telling people how to add value to the nation in order to receive money. The real money is value. Bringing valuable, innovative ideas will culminate into wealth creation. The extreme rich people have added something valuable to humanity, and such has made them very rich. While the church is focused on breaking curses, the people of this world are majoring in intellectual property. Wealth creation does not come by breaking the generational curses. If it was so, the church in Africa would have been the richest entity on earth. But the opposite is the case. It’s the Chinese and the European that have occupied the space of economical dominion.
Real money is intellectual property. Apostle Paul said, ‘If a man does not work, he should not eat as well.’
10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
2 Thessalonians 3: 10
Thinking is work. The highest paid form of work is thinking. People are paid more for thinking than physical work, While money is important, the church should focus more on encouraging its membership on developing intellectually. We have pastors around who are promising miracle money to believers. Money is not a product of miracles but intellect. Israel had manna in the desert for forty years, but it stopped when they crossed over into the promised land. The promised land was a place of creative thinking for maximum productivity.
Real money is time. Where time is not respected, you will find less productivity. An African is a bad time manager. Time is an intangible resource that is convertible. This is not to say that spending the whole day at church is wrong. But if the time spent at church is spent on queuing for one on one and deliverance, is time wasted. I’d rather go home and listen to a message on Television that can build me up than waiting on someone to tell me about what is wrong with me and then at the end of the day sow a seed in form of money. We have a problem in Africa with time management. We waste time on things that are not adding any value to our lives. Time is precious. Learn to invest in your mind and life in general. Be in a church that is feeding you on the word of God and encouraging you to improve yourself academically.
