The Purpose of Leadership Gifts Part 3

And he has appointed some with grace to be apostles, and some with grace to be prophets, and some with grace to be evangelists, and some with grace to be pastors, and some with grace to be teachers.
Ephesians 4: 11

By Apostle Felix

The worst thing that can ever happen in the health sector is to allow an untrained person to undertake an operation. The patient operated on will certainly not come out alive from the operating theater. The person is unskilled to undertake such a task. Why then do we allow untrained people to do the work of ministry?

We appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, to instruct those who are not in their place of battle. Be skilled at gently encouraging those who feel themselves inadequate. Be faithful to stand your ground. Help the weak to stand again. Be quick to demonstrate patience with everyone.
1 Thessalonians 5: 14

The church needs skilled workers that will be able to do ministry with efficiency. Counselors need training in order to do counseling effectively. We have allowed untrained people to counsel others in church. That is a recipe for disaster.

A church should not be personality driven, but Christ driven. This is when a local church has developed into a body and each individual recognizes his/her part of responsibility. A personality driven church operates without recognizing the body.

For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
1 Corinthians 12: 14, 15

There is a difference between a gladiator and a shepherd. Gladiators are killers, while shepherds are feeders. Gladiators protect themselves from been devoured, but shepherds protect the sheep from been devoured. God did not look for a gladiator to lead Israel but sought for a shepherd. Shepherds feed the sheep on good pastures. They lead the sheep to the best of the pasture.

Shepherding takes skill. You cannot just ask a novice to take care of the sheep. You cannot ask a gladiator to take care of the sheep. He does not have the skill to do. Shepherds feed for the well-being of the sheep. The sheep should grow, strong and healthy. The strength of a local church depends on the food given, which has to be the revelation of Christ.

It is the word given that determines the effectiveness of the body. The church should not be lame, but every part of the body should be functional. The food determines functionality.
