The Power of The Name of Jesus

The Power of The Name of Jesus

By Apostle Felix

1  A beautiful reputation is more to be desired than great riches, and to be esteemed by others is more honorable than to own immense investments.

Proverbs 22: 1

Songs have been composed about the power of the name of Jesus. Messages have been preached about the name of Jesus. So much has been said about this name. But what really is the name of Jesus? The understanding what the name of Jesus is, will really help us to use the name effectively. When we fail to understand the purpose of a thing, then abuse is inevitable. And purpose can only been known when the character and nature of a thing is understood very well.

The Passion Translation of the Bible, uses reputation instead of name. According to the Cambridge dictionary, reputation is defined as the opinion that people in general have about someone or something, or how much respect or administration someone or something receives, based on past behavior or character. The Bible says that God, Father has given Him a name that is above all other names.

9  Because of that obedience, God exalted him and multiplied his greatness! He has now been given the greatest of all names!
10  The authority of the name of Jesus causes every knee to bow in reverence! Everything and everyone will one day submit to this name—in the heavenly realm, in the earthly realm, and in the demonic realm.

Philippians 2: 9, 10

What name has been given to the Son of God? This name, is not just J.E.S.U.S. It is beyond just the letters. We have so many people by the same name in Angola, Brazil, Mozambique and Portugal. The name Jesus is the English name of Yeshua, a Hebrew name. The name itself does not have power, but the power lies in the reputation of the name bearer. It is very possible that they are individuals bearing the name, Jesus, who are prison. Their reputation is so bad that the government had to incarcerate them. The name that has been given to Jesus, the Son of God, is His reputation. What is Jesus’ reputation?

5  And consider the example that Jesus, the Anointed One, has set before us. Let his mindset become your motivation.
6  He existed in the form of God, yet he gave no thought to seizing equality with God as his supreme prize.
7  Instead he emptied himself of his outward glory by reducing himself to the form of a lowly servant. He became human!
8  He humbled himself and became vulnerable, choosing to be revealed as a man and was obedient. He was a perfect example, even in his death—a criminal’s death by crucifixion!

Philippians 2: 5 – 8

The attitude Jesus had while He was on earth earned Him a reputable name. His attitude was marked with humility and faithfulness and such qualities made Him to remain faithful to His mission of dying on the cross. His attitude was His submission to the Father’s will of redeeming man, by becoming a sacrificial lamb without blemish. He fulfilled the Father’s mission to the letter. He satisfied the Father by His death. Therefore, the Father raised Him from the dead and gave Him a name that is above all names. The name of Jesus is the position that He occupies in God on behalf of man. It’s a position of right standing because He accomplished which He was sent for to earth. He is now seated at the right hand of God, the Father.

20  that was released when God raised Christ from the dead and exalted him to the place of highest honor and supreme authority in the heavenly realm!
21  And now he is exalted as first above every ruler, authority, government, and realm of power in existence! He is gloriously enthroned over every name that is ever praised, not only in this age, but in the age that is coming!
22  And he alone is the leader and source of everything needed in the church. God has put everything beneath the authority of Jesus Christ and has given him the highest rank above all others.

Ephesians 1: 20 – 22

3  The Son is the dazzling radiance of God’s splendor, the exact expression of God’s true nature—his mirror image! He holds the universe together and expands it by the mighty power of his spoken word. He accomplished for us the complete cleansing of sins, and then took his seat on the highest throne at the right hand of the majestic One.
