The Power of Decisions
By Apostle Felix
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Joshua 24: 15
Life is a chain of decisions made over time. It is an inescapable event in one’s life. It is an every day event. Decisions are made every moment of our lives. As you read this devotional, it is a decision you have made to read and you can also decide not to go through to the end. There are others who decided long ago not to even open any of my devotionals I send on daily basis. I make decisions to write devotionals every day. It is a deliberate decision that I do every day. We make decisions to rise up every morning and go for work. We do also decide to serve God. Paul made a personal decision to know Christ and His power of resurrection.
10 And I continually long to know the wonders of Jesus more fully and to experience the overflowing power of his resurrection working in me. I will be one with him in his sufferings and I will be one with him in his death.
Philippians 3: 10
Decisions cause us to take certain actions, which in turn translate into habits. Every habit started with a decision. Every bad or good habit, all started with a decision. Habits are simply an accumulation of decisions made in one’s life. For example, Judas Iscariot had a series of decisions made that led to betraying the Messiah. His decisions made him to fit into the character of one to betray the Messiah. It could have been Peter or any of the disciples. But it turned out be Judas because of the decisions he had made in his life. He loved money, and the love of money is the root of all evil.
10 Loving money is the first step toward all kinds of trouble. Some people run after it so much that they have given up their faith. Craving more money pushes them away from the faith into error, compounding misery in their lives!
1 Timothy 6: 10
It was decisions he had made in his life that formed such a character in Judas’ life. Every habit is traceable to decisions made. This is the reason why we have to take personal responsibility of certain consequences in our lives rather than projecting them to our fore fathers as the cause of our problems. It is very heart-breaking to see how people can patronize the so called houses of deliverance and prophecy for solutions to the problems they probably caused by making bad decisions. You do not need prayers of deliverance from making bad decisions. Just get your mind straightened up, think right and make right decisions that will push you into a right a direction. What you may call a generational curse can just be repeating the same decisions your parents or your family made. This is because the culture and the thinking patterns of the family has shaped your own thinking patterns.
2 Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.
Romans 12: 2
There are examples of people in the bible who made good decisions and there lives turned out good. People such as Esther. She made a decision to save her people of annihilation. It came at a cost of her life but yet it paid handsomely. Most decisions that have long term rewards come at a cost of sacrificing temporal and short term gratification. Esther had an option to hide her identity and continue enjoying the benefits of her position as a queen. But she chose to sacrifice all that for the sake of saving her people. Make decisions today that will benefit your posterity positively.
