10  The character of God is a tower of strength, for the lovers of God delight to run into his heart and be exalted on high. 

11  The rich, in their conceit, imagine that their wealth is enough to protect them. It becomes their confidence in a day of trouble. 

Proverbs 18: 10, 11

The name of the Lord is more than just the letters, J.E.S.U.S. There is a myth among Christians that the devil is afraid of the name; Jesus. But the name Jesus is a common name among men. We do find people named after that name in countries like Angola, Mozambique, Brazil and Portugal. The power is not in the name itself, but in the character of the name bearer. There were individuals in Israel who were named Jesus before Jesus Christ was born but yet had no power to save, and the devils never trembled at their instance. The power behind every name is character. It is the character of an individual that gives power to the name. There can be a thousand Josephs but one with a godly character will standout from the rest. A good name is better than riches.

1  A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

1  A beautiful reputation is more to be desired than great riches, and to be esteemed by others is more honorable than to own immense investments.

A good name there is not in reference to a beautiful name, but a beautiful reputation.

13  And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 

4  If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

John 14: 13, 14

Jesus made such a promise to His disciples because He had confidence in His reputation. He is trustworthy. His name can be trusted because of His character. He is God who cannot lie or change. He is the God of integrity, meaning He is one with His word. He does what He says, and He says what He does. It is impossible for God to lie. He cannot say one thing and does something else. He is committed to performing His word.

19  God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Numbers 23: 19

It is His authenticity that distinguishes Him from the rest. He has the power to cause all His promises to come to pass. He calls those things which are not as those they were because of His ability to cause them to come pass. He is called the Truth and that nature in itself suggests that there is no lie in Him. When He says, it is good, believe Him. It is good. When He says, you are healed and you are lying sick in bed. Believe Him that you are healed. You don’t have to wait for you to feel healed, but just have to believe that you have been healed. When He says that you are blessed, you don’t have to wait to feel blessed, just believe. This is because He cannot lie.

11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Isaiah 55: 11

No matter, how the situation looks like, trust Him. So then, when you are praying in the name of Jesus, always bear in mind that character behind that name is trustworthy. He is well able to do that which has promised. And that is the name He has given you.
