The Name of The Lord

The Name of The Lord

By Apostle Felix

10  The character of God is a tower of strength, for the lovers of God delight to run into his heart and be exalted on high.

Proverbs 18: 10 TPT

10  The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Proverbs 18: 10 KJV

The Hebrew word used for name in Proverbs 18: 10, is Shem which means, ‘A mark or memorial of individuality, by implication may mean honor, authority, character. The same portion of scripture is quoted from two different versions of the Bible. The Passion translation describes the name of the Lord as the character of God. The name has deeper meaning than just the word itself. This is in reference to the words of Jesus when He spoke to His disciples to ask in His name in John 14: 13, 14. He said to the disciples that when they prayed in His name then He would give whatever had been asked for. That scripture has been misunderstood to think that God is obliged to give whatever we ask for. Even when we ask for something to spend on our lust, God is obliged to give. God is Lord. He cannot subject Himself to man and be at man’s beck and call. That misunderstanding has led to many disappointments. So many christians prayed with that in mind that God will give whatever one asks for.

13  For I will do whatever you ask me to do when you ask me in my name. And that is how the Son will show what the Father is really like and bring glory to him.
14  Ask me anything in my name, and I will do it for you!”

John 14: 13, 14

Jesus talked about asking in His name to His disciples. His name was not just Jesus, but His character. This is because, before He became a man, He was an immortal God, whose name was not Jesus. He was unchangeable God, whose character is consistent with His name, I AM.

58  Jesus said to them, “I give you this eternal truth: I have existed long before Abraham was born, for I AM!”

John 8: 58

The name of Jesus is consistent with I AM. I AM is the character of God. He is an eternal and immutable God. The I AM speaks of God, who cannot lie. Him and His word are one. He watches over His word to perform it.

12  Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.”

Jeremiah 1: 12

Praying in the name of Jesus needs the revelation of Christ, the Anointed One and His anointing. If we are praying without revelation, we are going to use the name of Jesus as a wand stick for performing magic acts. Jesus will denounce those who will claim of having performed miracles in His name. He will say to them that He did not know them. He denied knowing them because they simply used the name Jesus, without His character – the I AM THAT I AM.

22  On the day of judgment many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, don’t you remember us? Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we cast out demons and do many miracles for the sake of your name?’
23  But I will have to say to them, ‘Go away from me, you lawless rebels! I’ve never been joined to you!’

Matthew 7: 22, 23

Jesus will base His rejection of those who will claim to have performed in His name, on the character of His name. When the unity with His character is lacking in one’s life then rejection is inevitable. Receiving from God what He has already provided for us is depended on our alignment with His character. God is not withholding anything from anyone. When He said that ask for anything in My name, He meant to ask in His character and according to His character.
