The Essence of the Knowledge of Christ

9  I am the Gateway. To enter through me is to experience life, freedom, and satisfaction.
10  A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect—life in its fullness until you overflow!
11  I am the Good Shepherd who lays down my life as a sacrifice for the sheep. 

John 10: 9 – 11

Jesus said that the thieve only comes to steal, kill and destroy. And we had established in yesterday’s devotional that ignorance is a destroyer. People go into captivity and bondage because of ignorance. It is not because the devil is more powerful. The devil cannot be more powerful than the knowledge of God. The devil is a nonentity when it comes to God. He is not a match to God. The notion people have of satan is one who is ever in contest with God. It’s like God is Chelsea and satan is Manchester United. He wins sometimes and God loses sometimes. That is a corrupt way of looking at God. Satan is not God’s competitor. God has no competitors.

25  “To whom, then, will you compare me, and to whom should I be equal?” asks the Holy One.

Isaiah 40: 25

The Lord cannot be compared to none and nothing. In John chapter ten verse ten, it looks like Jesus was trying to outcompete the devil. The devil offers death and destruction, while Jesus offers life. That’s a warped reasoning because God is not trying to outdo satan. God is God all by Himself.

Jesus as man, was born under the law and was subjected to all human conditions, such as death. He came into this world to die in a place of man as a law transgressor. The law was given for the purpose of making sin sinful, therefore invoking condemnation instead of justification. The law, though holy had no power in itself to justify man but only to condemn. What seemed like a deliverer for man, actually brought death and condemnation. When Moses received the law at mount Sinai, death was introduced in the camp. The law, which was holy, was a mirror to man to reflect the sinful nature of man. Every time, when the law was read, it reminded the children of Israel of their sins. It was not justifying them at all, but condemning them. Condemnation robs one of peace, joy and confidence in God. So, Jesus referred to those that came before him, the law giver and the prophets as the hireling. Moses and all the prophets, though they prophesied about the coming of the Messiah, were not in any position to die for another man. Jesus was the only one who qualified to die for mankind.

1  So now the case is closed. There remains no accusing voice of condemnation against those who are joined in life-union with Jesus, the Anointed One.
2  For the “law” of the Spirit of life flowing through the anointing of Jesus has liberated us from the “law” of sin and death. 

Romans 8: 1, 2

The law empowered sin, and the wages of sin is death. So then, the ignorance of what Jesus has done for mankind is the source of all death and destruction. In his humanity, the law was Jesus’ competitor, not satan. The greatest opposition Jesus had on earth was the law. They used the law to try to silence Jesus. It was the law that was used to crucify Him. But thanks be to God that the One who died under the law rose from the dead in the power of the Spirit.

3  For God achieved what the law was unable to accomplish, because the law was limited by the weakness of human nature. Yet God sent us his Son in human form to identify with human weakness. Clothed with humanity, God’s Son gave his body to be the sin-offering so that God could once and for all condemn the guilt and power of sin.
