The Curse of Disunity Part 3
By Apostle Felix
Gen 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
Gen 5:2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
Gen 5:3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:
Gen 5:4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:
Gen 5:5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.Genesis 5: 1 – 5
This devotional is a continuation from yesterday’s devotional. For the sake of good understanding, read yesterday’s and Wednesday’s devotionals. I am still addressing the curse of disunity, and laboring to trace it from the book of Genesis. In yesterday’s devotional, I talked about the harmfulness of hatred in a person’s life. I ended with James’ words from James chapter four, verse one and two, which address the inner man’s problems, leading to all the problems man experiences, such as wars.
1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.James 4: 1, 2
In today’s devotional, I am going to address the reset God performed due to man’s state of confusion. God had intended man to represent Him in character and nature on the earth. But that had been disrupted because man had declared himself independent from God. He was no longer one with God. Adam, who is the father of all nations, had other children with Eve after the death of Abel and the leaving of Cain. The only son of Adam mentioned after the saga of Cain and Abel is Seth. Seth was mentioned to establish the lineage of Christ. Seth established a holy nation, according to the then-standard. Seth was considered a replacement for the lost sons, Abel and Cain. He was appointed as a nation to represent man on earth as God had intended.
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.1 Peter 2: 9, 10
God began a new nation through Seth, and He wanted to establish righteousness. Seth was in Adam’s likeness and image. God had always wanted to establish a nation that would represent Him on earth. The Hebrew word for nation is “Am” which represents a people or kindred community. It also highlights unity, shared values, and deep communal ties. In the Bible, a ‘nation’ is not a political state with fixed borders. It refers to a body of people connected by a shared family line, language, culture, and land. According to this understanding of a nation, then Xenophobia is totally wrong and the public display of ignorance by those perpetuating it.
28 And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:
29 And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.Genesis 5: 28, 29
Several nations came out of Adam, the original human race. And the outstanding personality from Seth’s lineage is Noah. At this point, humanity had multiplied greatly, and so was evil. The unruliness had gotten out of control, and humanity was weighed under it. Lamech had a son and named him Noah, as a way to express that generation’s desire for rest from all the confusion and hardship.
