The Benefits of Knowing Christ Part 1

For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. Romans 10: 2, 3

Zeal is an enthusiasm expressed through an individual for something. Which is a good trait. However, it is not enough all by itself without the knowledge of Christ. Zeal without the knowledge of Christ may turn one into a religious fanatic. Paul was one of them.

Philippians 3: 6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness, which is in the law, blameless.

Before he got saved, Paul persecuted the church out of the zeal he had for God without the knowledge of Christ. Most of the religious sects around the world are searching for God without Christ. A search for God without Christ leads to religious fanaticism. God, the Father is known through Christ.

Hebrews 1: 3 The Son is the dazzling radiance of God’s splendor, the exact expression of God’s true nature—his mirror image!

Christ is the exact expression of God’s true nature. God can only be known through Christ who became Immanuel – God in man. He came to show God to man, and bring man back to God. The knowledge of Christ is very essential in knowing who God is. The disciples wanted Christ to show them the Father. But His response amazed them all. If you have seen Christ, then you have seen the Father, John 14: 7- 11. If you want to know God, the Father, just look at Jesus.

The gospel is the message of Christ, which reveals what He has done for man. It reveals the mind of God concerning man. The gospel is the good news. It is not the message of what man should do for God. The gospels is not demanding but supplying. The gospel has supplied salvation to all men. And the recipient is man. There is a difference between the gospel and the law. The law demanded from man. Man had to perform in order to be in right standing with God. But the gospel supplies. The gospel is grace.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Ephesians 2: 8, 9
