Significance of Christ’s Resurrection

The Significance of Christ’s Resurrection

24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. 25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? John 11: 24 – 26

Man was hopelessly doomed in death. It was a grip man could not free himself from. But Jesus’ resurrection has offered so much hope. No other man has ever made such a claim that he or she is the resurrection and the life. Only Jesus did and He fulfilled it. Others had made similar claims but they did not resurrect from the dead. Their graves are still here and their bones are in the graves. Jesus’ tomb is empty and He is seated at the right hand of the Father in heavenly places. For the claim to be reality, Christ had to die.

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.  John 12: 24

Death was inevitable for Jesus to resurrect and offer salvation. Therefore, death had been a facilitator of resurrection. There cannot be resurrection without death. One has to die in order to resurrect. Man had rebelled against God and was in a state of death since. The only way man could be redeemed was by God dying and defeating sin and death through resurrection. After the fall, God allowed man to die for the purpose of redemption.

22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: 23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. Genesis 3: 22 – 24

God protected man from living forever in a sinful state. Man had to die. That’s why it is not God’s wish that anyone should be perish. He has provided salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Dying in sin that leads to eternal death is a decision one makes to reject the salvation God has provide in Christ. Adam, the first man had to die so that the last Adam could come and experience death and resurrection for the redemption of mankind.

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Genesis 3: 15

The prophecy had to be fulfilled concerning the Christ. Through the death resurrection of Jesus Christ, man has been redeemed. Jesus did not come to tour earth but to die for the sins of mankind.

21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Matthew 16: 21

The disciples were so disappointed with Jesus’ idea of dying. They saw death as the end of life, but Jesus saw death as a means to an end. With Jesus, death was not the end, but a means to facilitate resurrection for the salvation of mankind. Do not be afraid of death anymore. Death is not the end of you because you have the life of God in you, which is the resurrection power.
