Process of Decision Making
By Apostle Felix
13 Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews.
14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?Esther 4: 13, 14
Man is a free moral being, with a capacity within himself to make decisions. God does not make decisions on behalf of man. It is a part that has been left solely to man’s responsibility. There is no single time when God made decisions for man. He suggests to man and leaves the decision making to him. This is the reason why we need to understand the process of decision making so that we will be able to make better decisions.
19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
Deuteronomy 30: 19
Man is a person of destiny. And every decision made becomes a piece of the puzzle in one’s destiny pursuits. So then, wisdom and precision should be applied to decision making processes. Decisions are made on the daily basis. There are those with long term effects and those with short term effects. However, the decisions with short term effects contribute to the long term effects. Therefore, the decisions with short term effects should not be trivialized. Become intentional when it comes to decision making. Commit to discipline where decision making is concerned. Decisions are made everyday, such as wake up early enough to pray and read your Bible. Clean your bedroom and be on time at work. Avoid leaving your office before the actual knocking off time. Discipline yourself to attend to appointments promptly, avoiding procrastination at all cost.
Esther had a challenge to make a decision regarding the future of Israel. She had several things to consider, that we should also consider when it comes to decision making.
1. Was the decision self-centred? Esther had every reason to ignore Mordecai’s request to save Israel. She would have decided to save her face and let the entire nation to be annihilated. But she chose to others above self. In decision making, consider others and how your decision will have affect others, especially those coming after you. Politicians should hear this.
2. Prayed about it. Esther sought the Lord’s guidance. She had to rely on the Lord than her position as a queen. She was aware of the consequences of approaching the king’s throne when you are not invited. Prayer is a language of dependence. Seek God before making a major decision of your life.
3. Consult the word of God. The word of God has a way of putting things in the right perspective. It has the attendance of giving the godly perspective of things. Be a word person, decisions made shall be a product of wisdom.
