Overhaul Your Thinking

1  Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship.
2  Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes. 

Romans 12: 1, 2

The mind is so important to exhibiting either the life of victory or defeat. It is an arena where the battle of words take place. Words are simply thoughts that have been expressed. And thoughts are words yet to be expressed. Jesus alluded to it in this way,

34  But you who are known as the Pharisees are rotten to the core! You’ve been poisoned by the nature of a venomous snake. How can your words be good and trustworthy if you are rotten within? For what has been stored up in your hearts will be heard in the overflow of your words! 

Matthew 12: 34

You cannot say what is not in your mind. It is like trying to draw out water from a dry well. No amount of prayer will cause water to be drawn from a dry well. Therefore, the state of man’s life is largely determined by the state of the heart. Jesus said that the mouth reveals the condition of the heart.

18  But what comes out of your mouth reveals the core of your heart. Words can pollute, not food.
19  You will find living within an impure heart evil ideas, murderous thoughts, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, lies, and slander. 

Matthew 15: 18, 19

All the evils in this world are the issues of the heart. Any attempt to change a man without addressing the content of his heart will be a futile attempt. Men transform by renewing of our minds with the thoughts of God’s word. So many christians want their lives to transform by the laying on of hands. No, the laying on of hands does not transmit ideas, values  and attitudes of God. It is the word consumption that brings about transform. Pentecostals are culprits to shunning the word of God for spiritualism. Transform needs a mind of overhaul of thoughts – a displacement of worldly thoughts with godly thoughts.

No man can rise above the condition of his mind. Junk in, junk out. The day you realize that your life is giving out junk, then check the words that you have been listening to. What kind of word have shaped your thinking patterns? For some, it’s words that were spoken to us when we were young, and we have decided to believe in those words above the word of God. Overhaul your thinking in order to appreciate what the Lord has for you. The biggest battle of your life is not the devil and his demons, but the condition of your mind shaped by worldly views.

3  For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

2 Corinthians 10: 3 – 5

The real spiritual warfare is not rebuking demons on the basis, it is renewing our minds by the word. A man, whose mind is word infested will never be the devil’s prey. He does not need to open his mouth for the devils to flee. His presence is enough for the devils to excuse themselves from the territory. Overhaul your thoughts with the word of God and your life will be on top.
