MANY PARTS, ONE BODY

For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many. 1 Corinthians 12: 12 – 14

The beauty of the church community is the diversity. It is that diversity that brings about the unity, which is called unity in diversity. People of all races, languages and tongues come together to pursue one goal, which is the expansion of the Kingdom of God in the earth. Any attempt to bring about uniformity in church kills diversity. The propagation of uniformity is what leads to cultic tendencies. Cults thrive on robbing the uniqueness of its adherents, and conform the people to a set of behavior only endorsed by its leader. We have many cultic churches around with such inclinations. The leader is the dispenser of rules and the custodian of gifts and grace. He/ she is looked upon as one who has the power to bless and curse. Many follow such individuals out of fear.

Christ’s church is an institution that is motivated by love. The people follow the leader because he is Christ-like. The motivation of following is Christ, and the willing to serve Christ. The people are free to serve the Lord with their gifts in their uniqueness. It’s the diversity that makes the church to be called the body of Christ. The body is made up of many parts, which are different from one another. A body can not be an eye only and be called a body. It will be called an eye, not a body. A body consists of many parts.

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2: 5

The church is made up of living stones, and not bricks. Stones maintain their individuality, though part of the building. They can be of different shapes and sizes Bricks are made from one mould, carrying same size and shape. Bricks have uniformity. They all look alike, not stones. If one brick breaks, can easily be replaced with another. But for a stone, it is not that easy to replace it. That’s how important you are, child of God. You are significant and so is your gift and talent. Participate in church ministry and a blessing to the body of Christ. You are that part among many that can contribute to the success of your local church.
