DANGERS OF SYNCRETISM

Syncretism is a major problem in the church today. Christianity is independent of our traditions, regardless of how good they may appear. The gospel is infallible, sufficient and incorruptible in itself. It does not need any external validation, such as an imagery or elements to validate it. The gospel is complete and perfect. It offers the complete and perfect of work of Christ. Syncretism is deadly in the sense that it has the potential to make the Word of God of no effect.

The word of God was made of no effect, until one man by the name of Martin Luther in 1516 stood up against the traditions that were introduced into the church. The church had slipped into apostasy because traditions were elevated above the sanctity of the word of God. Martin Luther began to preach salvation through faith in Christ alone. He posed such a great threat to the existence of the religious systems that were benefiting from the system. Ignorance is business. Men have built empires out of ignorance. The message of Christ alone is a threat to Christianity that is mixed with traditions of men. It is the tradition element that brings in the revenue. The selling of spiritual items did not start today. It is an old practice that started when the church started.

For unlike so many, we are not peddlers of God’s Word who water down the message. We are those sent from God with pure motives, who speak in the sight of God from our union with Christ. 2 Corinthians 2: 17

Syncretism has the ability to veil people’s mind from seeing the glorious gospel of Christ.The worst witchcraft is not some guy flying on a broom but someone masqueraded as achild of God yet using the name of the Lord for personal gain. Church can only be a lucrative business when the owner of the church, Jesus Christ, is hidden from the people. It is not possible to do business in His church when He is revealed. Hence, the reason for the emphasis on spiritual elements. It is because elements hide the Christ that has the power to set His people free.

The death and resurrection of Christ set us free from perpetual usage of rituals and of elements to eternal salvation by faith in Christ. His blood and anointing is no longer physical, but spiritual. The moment we delve into such practices as sprinkling of blood or drinking of oil, we are then trending into dangerous grounds that may lead to practicing witchcraft either consciously or unconsciously. Desist from such, and stay with Christ alone. He is enough!
